Time to invest in some
new knees
Hey dude, CMB! Got some new knees coming in.
I'm 25 and was fairly active when i was younger in all sorts of stuff (ice skating, footy etc..). I had a thing called osgood-schlatters. You are meant to grow out of it but i never did fully my everyday is cracking very loudly. Having issues getting up after kneeling of being on the floor or a low bench. Very short periods of exercise before i have to stop (call me Shaq) and general all around cruddyness in cold weather. Maybe you had something similar. It has also had an impact on how i lift things, for example i try to avoid bending my knees wherever possible and that has had an impact on my lower back as well. To the point at the end of the day once i'm down on the couch i stay there until I absolutely have to move.
In short i sympathise and feel your pain!
Yepp, I've had knee issues since Year 6
Had trouble walking down stairs but I didn't tell my mum until I was in Year 8. The doctor said I had been running too much and took me off sport for 6 months. He apparently said that the cartlidge in my knee wasn't positioned correctly, so I was wearing it down bit by bit and soon my knee would be bone-on-bone. I didn't listen, continued to join the school touch football and soccer team. Really couldn't handle it in Year 10. I was literally not running for a week just to make sure my knee would be fine for weekly sport on Wednesdays
When I woke up, or did homework for too long, my knee would also stiffen up so I had to make sure my leg wasn't bent for long periods of time. Finally laid off for 6 months. Had to coach Opens Girls Touch Football for Winter sport, but it was where I met my girlfriend so I guess it didn't turn out too bad
Final exams in Year 12 also meant I had no time for sport, so I guess it allowed me another 6 month layoff from sport. And knee FEELS fine right now, but you never know, could still be as weak as before.
I've had knee problems before....just wear and tear....but to the point where I was bone on bone and certain parts of my kneecap felt sore to touch (bone bruising). I had x-rays and MRI's.....but in the end 2 things fixed it....losing a bit of weight and custom made orthotics for my shoes.(Costs around $400) Don't go to a podiatrist though....try and find a specialist in orthotics.
I also recently had achilles soreness in both feet....carried it for an entire cricket season....got new shoes, even rest didn't fix it....went and got new orthotics after 9 years of wearing the other ones and now 'm as good as gold again!!
Had both of mine operated on at 18.
Always found that my left knee suffered more since then (jumping leg).
Really suffering for it all now at post 40
Was worth every dunk though
Got a history of Crohn's Disease in my family, Crohn's disease - PubMed Health
terrible stuff, went to the physio when I was 25 and he said my back was more like a 50 year olds (posture, movement etc)what about if I make it to 75 years old wow!
