....some of the teams that were in the running for Ben Cousins would be "spewin" that they didn't take the punt??? (Pardon the pun!!)

Except St Kilda of course...who don't need any more help!!

mmm maybe. i dont think he would be very dominant in a top 8 side. although credit to him he has come back and put some good footy together

Not really, Depends if you have room for him in your 22.
Think his best suited where he is atm really

I reckon he could've added another dimension to Collingwood's midfield

No way mate, have alot of strong midfield players atm.

Current
C: Toovey, Beams, Pendlebury

Try this
C: Beams, Pendlebury, Cousins

For a team capable of making a premiership challenge this year, I know which I would take. Cousins is no passenger. Toovey, while a good kid, is no Ben Cousins.

Toovey is more of a tagger as we really dont have 1
I would rather play Beams or Sidebottom in there rather then having Cousins for 1-2 years max

Nope, we got a future star for the forward line with freakish skills with our PSD pick that will stick around more than two years and command less than 400K a year to boot.

Cousins is a band aid and nothing else and makes no sense for a club trying to develop its list.

Don't count your chickens just yet, every second first year player is a future star. And anyhow, I'm sure there would have been an opportunity in the National Draft to pick Cuz up.

There's only a few clubs that would not have found a place in the senior side for Cousins, and I could count them on one hand. Now that he has caught back up with the game, he is proving his true value.

Collingwood would have benefitted greatly from Cousins joining the fold, While the youngsters are looking capable, they neither have the legs or experience to run with elite midfields such as those of the Saints, Cats and Dogs.
It's not about your top 3 midfielders anymore, it's about those six or seven blokes who rotate through the centre.
Throw Cousins amongst the current Pie midfield and all of a sudden it becomes a lot more flexible and formidable.

Anyone thinking Cuzz wouldn't walk into their side in the form he is in at the moment is kidding themselves...

You cant just chuck players into your side and expect them all to bond. You need to build up your team over a number of years to look at a premiership.

Not Geelong. There's No room in our centre. If you think there's a spot, find one I dare you.

C: Joel Corey – Cameron Ling – Jimmy Bartel
Foll: Shane Mumford (ruck) – Joel Selwood – Gary Ablett

St Kilda will need help come finals time, there are excellent at choking at finals time! :)
Yesss , when we have lost finals they have been first week and we have won the next. Our last 3 prelim losses have been to the eventual premiers, who have been better teams ... So that isn't choking.

I think "rebuilding" player lists, as they say, is a load of rubbish. There is no reason teams should have to bottom out to become competitive, I believe the hawks are the only Premiership side to have had a priority pick.

The growth and development of a club's list should be an ongoing thing. Sure, they will occasionally miss the finals, but clubs can & should remain competitive without having to "rebuild."

Every year you should be building towards your next premiership.

perfectly said! he has been very good when he has played it must be said and by all accounts, has shown fantastic leadership with the young guys at tigerland

ross lyon was interviewed on triple m yesterday and was asked about the decision not to take cousins... were gonna bring him over for his work ethic, preparation and to set an example to the rest of the guys... he said that the players took that to heart and figured that they dont need ben cousins to show them how to do that and figured that the onus and responsibility was on them to prove the doubters and critics wrong... they have certainly done that!!! so the real question is: did ben cousins indirectly spur on this charge and revival by the saints without anyone even realising it????
