Uruguay has defeated Argentina 1-0 in its final South American qualifier in Montevideo to finish fifth and earn a playoff against the Socceroos for a spot at next year's World Cup finals in Germany.

Australia's play-off against Uruguay is a repeat of their match-up in 2001, when Uruguay won the two-legged tie 3-1.

This time, though, Australia travels first to Montevideo for the first match at the Estadio Centenario on November 12.

The second leg will be at Sydney's Telstra Stadium on November 16.

Ugh, not again

Anything sus about the match? I read that some people were skeptical about the match possibly being fixed.

I'd prefer to play Chile, any thoughts?

its a bit of a coincidence but at least we play home last. thats an advantage cause we can change or tactics if we lose to 1st game

yer and at telstra could be a big crowd, but i doubt it :o

its going to be a hard series to win, urgay will pay if we lose

go Australia =D>

GOAL :fball:

i think the crowd will be larger thanks in kind to the new a-league thats started up. soccer has landed in oz for real now and people are starting to check it out fully. i think this will lead to a larger crowd for the socceroos when they play. can only help em

I think it will be better this time.

If Australia do well in the first leg, the good chance of qualifying will bring a huge crowd.

Also its in Sydney :D

yep i agree with everything here, the fact that the aussies are a much more organized team, the crowds will lift over here. Can't wait to watch it!!!

C'MON AUSSIES C'MON !!!
