This is a very debatable issue...with Rose being cleared to play quite some time ago and stating that he "isnt ready mentally" is it time for him to come back and play? personally i think he is a terrifically skilled and athletically gifted player, but I think its time for him to be there for his team, they just played a gritty and drawn series and who knows, with rose back they could give it a shot!...Rose needs to take a page from the kobe/iverson book and show that he is a tought player...

Iverson? Seriously? Hope he never, ever shows any sort of mental traits that are remotely like Iversons. Iverson is almost the last person I would use in there, sorry Aram!

If he's not ready, he's not ready, simple? If he goes out there and plays before he wholeheartedly believes he is ready to go again then it will not work out well for anyone involved. The Bulls would get their star back but he would be second guessing himself all the time, not playing to the best of his ability and would become a liability rather then the superstar he really is!! For him, he would be over thinking every movement which to me, is more dangerous and more likely to cause him a re injury!

I totally understand where you and a lot of other people are coming from, and it frustrates the shit out of me time and time again as a life long Bulls fan but at the same time I'd rather he be mentally capable as well as physically capable!

My thoughts on this are simple.

Last two seasons he has been prone to injuries. I don't mind if he rests up now so he can play 82 games next year.

Saying that, if he thinks he is ready by all means get on the court.

i agree iverson has become/probably was a head case....but he was tough when he played, banged up most of the time and he wanted to play through it all, i just feel as though rose is different from some players that want to be on the court regardless...nothing against him as a player...

He needs to wait til next year, just due to the fact he needs a fresh start, with no pressure on him from game one, and to be 100% ready and fit.

What if he goes out there, and due to the rush, he gets injured for another year?

He should have played some mins at the end of the season to test it out. But he didn't and he should definitely not try play now in the high intensity of a playoff series.

I really didn't rate the comments his brother has been putting out, there's no place for that in the NBA.

Hope he comes back to being great next year.

Also, I was never a huge Iverson guy but he was tough as hell. Undersized and always put up a fight.

I think he should have played at least for 10 minutes late in the season to get some confidence back...if it didn't feel right, shut it down and come back next year. At least it looks like he is trying to get back. But hearing how he is training with the team and could have been back weeks ago, this is not sitting right with a lot of people.

Cheers
Matt

It sounds like he has some confidence issues and perhaps people are questioning him as a way of trying to fire him up.
Once he gets a taste of playing again, it might push his desire to be the great player he has been in the past.
Why wait any longer. His team has already taken one big scalp and even if he came off the bench and see how he goes. Once that competitive fire starts raging, who knows what he might be able to achieve in this years finals

Maybe it is time he puts on some Nike's and just do it.

I don't think Adidas would be too happy with that considering the deal they signed with him last year

I agree, he should wait, not a good time to jump into it at this stage. Next season with a fresh start and less stress to get back into form early is the way to go.

Getting over injuries defiantly relies on being mentally ready just as much as being physically ready. Players like Greg Oden, Travis Outlaw, Brandon Roy (wow .. all Trail-Blazers) are certain players who threw their careers away rushing themself back into the game. Rose still has so much to achieve it would be heartbreaking to see him go down again. I broke my ankle about 6 months ago and have only recently gotten back into playing and was so nervous to jump I quit REP for a season, I defiantly see where he is coming from when he states he's not mentally ready. It's terrifying to sprint, jump, dive for loose balls etc. after coming back from such a serious injury. I mean I'm not comparing D-Rose to myself ofc! ... the kid has no match ;)

Some great points James. How long ago did you break your ankle ?

Late November I broke my ankle going for a rebound and landing on another player's foot. Had surgery soon after that and was able to come back a little while ago but gave it time since after ankle injuries you still feel a very minor ache which I decided to wait until I couldn't feel any pain at all.

They have another 10 years of him - why risk it. Also i would not want to be coming back from the injury to have to deal with LBJ guarding me!

Im really surprised that the Bulls have not just come out and say that they are shutting him down for the year. He has had to take a lot of shit from the media over it.
