I have recently recieved notification that Daniel Pain is about to publish a follow up to his original '100 Years Of Australian RL Trading Cards'.
This is a great reference for me that has helped me avoid bringing out Check Lists to see what I needed and didn't need, very few faults with the original book and it will be interesting to see if it is just a supplement to the original edition or completely up to date.

Hi,
A second edition of 100 Years of Australian Rugby League Cards Book is in the pipeline. We are asking for you, the experts to make comment as how the book could be improved and card sets that were missed.
If you would like to help that would be great.
Suggestions are most welcome.
We are looking at having larger font and larger images for the next release. Maintain the a5 pocket size. Layout is most likely going to be one column as opposed to two in the first edition, this is mainly due to the larger font.

It is a great book and like above probably my bible when referencing cards, there are a fair few mistakes which we could probably list on here and send to Dan as one lot.

My first suggestion don't change size as I don't need a pocket reference guide, can't see myself carrying it around with me it........."hey look at me I have a 6" thick footy cards guide in my top pocket"

Mistakes that come to mind:

2005 Power No mention of the Kevin Hastings Inspiration cards
2006 Accolade Footy Faces list 152...no checklist in this release only 150
2007 Smiths Footy Tazo Lists 48 cards in the Authentic Signature Edition only 32
2008 Centenary In the Elite players lists the Knights as playing for Melbourne (they wish they were)

I leave some for you guys to add.

Cheers
Ross

Can't help myself so I'll do the Select Years 2000 on.......

2002 Challenge doesn't mention the redemption cards with the All Stars
2003 Select Retro.....missing completeLy not a set I will ever own so no big deal I suppose
2003 Knight Xmas card.........really why?
2007 Champions ...Award Cards....no Lockyer  every release needs to have a higher end Lockyer I'll be disappointed if there is a 2 year retired anniversary card in ESP 2013 offering
2008 Centenary #39 Herb Norvo Narvo......I ca be pretty anal sometimes.

I would like to see a symbol like an asterix * for error cards exist next to the player or in the header if its a full set and again I like the current size as I only need one "primary" reference and its big enough to make some notes around the pages / columns.

I've gotta stop drinking so much coffee....slow down a bit.

Time for a coffee

I've just checked the book for the mistakes that Ross mentions and 3/4 I found but for the 2007 Tazos there are only 32 mentioned not 48 as you incorrectly stated, as there is now a link to Daniel please send him a message as he does want to be made aware of any mistakes and give him some encouragement while you're at it.

I'm going for a master list rather than send him 100 messages, some twice / three times etc

The heading OK but it lists all 48 under the heading ......well that's what it looks like reformat the page maybe....or better still list the 32 as they are differrent?

4 frm 4

Ahhhh coffee.

2001 FF should reference there is a redemption card
2000 / 2001 also no mention of redemption card...Is it just me who finds this is a problem?

I would also like to know if their numbered and too haw many like in Owen's piece....nice touch

Just found this thread. Thanks for your time guys.

Any ideas will be considered.

I will go through all of the feedback and fix up mistakes from the old book and also add missing cards / sets.

Any info on missing cards or sets would be terrific information to include.

Reading further I think we will go for an A4 size book with more images and larger text. The A5 version would end up getting too big.

Please feel free to email me with recommendations daniel_pain@hotmail.com

I will make reference to this forum in the book for helping me to source information.

When i have gone to shows and card shops i have Microsoft word doc,s with my wish lists on my phone and Tablet pc
And I just had a thought while reading this thread... That it would be great to have dans book and maybe even owens price guide on my Phone and computer.
Have you ever thought of not only a hard copy but maybe a E-book Dan.
That seems to be the way of the future.
Anyway that's my 2 bobs worth.

Hi Dan , can you please add in all the signature cards from Dynamic 1994 to 1996.... For example the 1994 Rookie Sensations signature set of 6 cards , 1995 Force 5 redemption card that could be redemmed for all 5 Force 5 signature cards [ONLY 50 MADE AND WERE NUMBERED FROM 1 TO 50] , etc etc.... Thanks mate....

Not saying it is so, but sometimes, mistakes are deliberately put in to reference books like these to ensure people don't just copy them and pass them off as their own work.

Check any UBD or Gregorys. Each map has a 'ghost' street that doesn't exist. This is because a lot of cartographers just steal info holus bolus and don't check it. LOL.

Anyway...

The Maggie Tazos come to mind, there are a couple of others but i will check my copy again later :)

i loved the 1st version so i cant wait to see the 2nd :)

I thought the maggi were a png set. I am focusing on Australian cards only, otherwise where do you draw the line

Hi Ross,

I am confused, you say dont change the size as you dont need a pocket reference guide?

I have formatted it to a4. Larger text and larger images

A master list sounds awesome. Im open to suggestions and I can handle criticism. SO long as it is productive and helps to make a better product.
