BUSTED... just finished an update on xp and it picked up im using a pirated copy.... damn popup and notice when i turn on my pc now..WAAAAAAA:smt017
Any way around it apart from wasting cash on a new copy?

haha... bugger... you do realise you don't have to let it have details it just checks for files installed rather than details etc.... well used to be an option.

Yer better off not getting windows updates via the update site.... if there are critical updates ya need.... get to them via antivirus sites and that way you can just download the file without none of this scanning crap.

Otherwise just be vigilant and use common sense and just not get updates LOL

Thanks aj.... i tend to be a bit slack with the old updates so automaticly getting them done has untill now been great...
Cant complain really ive had many years of use and no cost:D

Hopefully problem should be solved....ittll be a major upgrade on both my pcs later this year...some of these new games coming out are over and above my pcs specs now:(

Reading your posts Stevo I sometimes forget you're 64 ;)

Is your XP Home or Professional Edition? If it's Professional I may be able to help.

This happened to a shady friend of mine and he found a patch/hack for this problem. Do a Google search for Window Genuine Advantage hack and you should soon be on your way. I think he said that there is a dll that gets replaced.

serious.. maybe you have sp2 (Service pack 2 - sp1 is the one i gave you) which is apart of the updates anyways..
hmmm.. sorry about that..

to boot from the cd, i'd say make sure in your bios you have your boot sequence set to

1) cd/dvd ROM
2) floppy diskette (B:\)
3) HDD

see how that goes..
