I have recently bought myself a new camera and have been taking it along to my local league footy (Sturt) games.
I've managed to snap a couple of good pics and was thinking of making my own set of trading cards out of some of them (see attached for my first attempt), then getting them signed by the players (notice in the example the lighter part of the card for a signature).
Does anyone have any advice or experience in making custom trading cards?
I wouldn't have the first clue so anything you guys can tell me would be great.
Any suggestions on improvements to the card would be greatly appreciated too!
Looks like a nice uncluttered design to me - maybe increase the contrast for the auto part to make it more obvious where the signature belongs. Perhaps a position or guernsey number next to his name? Not sure about the ramifications of using the club logo - but others on here should be able to help you out with that aspect....
Great up-close photo btw, I assume you sit boundary side with some high quality camera gear to grab shots that good!
Major tip would be to support a real team like the Roosters! heh heh
I think the hardest (and most expensive) part of this is going to be getting them printed.
Any recommendations on where to go? I live in Adelaide.
Dwayne: yep I sit right on the boundary in between the centre square and the 50m arc. Got a fairly cheap but good Canon SLR camera with a decent zoom lens on it so I get some reasonably good photos (heaps of crap ones too!). And BTW it looks like the Roosters and the Double Blues will be fighting it out for the wooden spoon this year!
Yeah I thought about the team name, but because it's in the logo I wasn't sure?
Haven't started on the back yet - was thinking of a player mugshot, name, guernsey number and stats like height, weight, games, goals etc. (which I can get from the Footy Budget)
Definitely out the team name anyway. Adds more detail and for a small effort too haha.
I personally don't think you should put another pic on the back but that is something different so maybe try a few different concepts and see what works.
Cards look great mate. It will be great if they bought out a series of SANFL cards. I would think about going to the club and speaking to them abought making sets. I remeber sturt have done it befor with a set of lottery tickets. Please keep us up to date with your designs. I really think they are fantastic.
I know what it would make it really good. Putting some Woodville West Torens players on the cards. That would look wicked. LOL
