Cricket World Cup cut to 10 teams.

Feeling so sorry for Ireland.. they worked there a***s off this World Cup to a few wins and then get told that they won't be playing in 2015... England won't be short of players to pick from!!

netherlands had Ryan ten Doeschate who made the world cup 11, bit stiff there i reckon, im sure he would have been looking forward to another chance on the big stage. i followed his progess because he played for tassie in the big bash, he did absolutely nothing for us but belted 2 centuries at the world cup.

Although I feel for teams like Ireland it will mean there will be less floggings so i am for it! Personally I think Ireland should be in and Zimbabwe should be out! What baffles me is this:

The 2015 event in Australia and New Zealand will only include the ten Test-playing nations after the ICC decided against a qualification system for the tournament, which means no chance for the likes of Ireland or Netherlands to earn a place. For 2019 there is the prospect of Associates and Affiliates finding a way back in through qualification, but today's decision has effectively frozen them out of the game's showpiece event for eight years.

I mean - Come on, have your 10 team Competition but make it a qualifying Top 10, don't just cut the rest out all together - WTF?

That said, having the 16 teams would have meant more games which would have made it easier for everyone to see Australia play in 2015 Cricket World Cup.

No doubt tickets will be hard to get and at a premium :(

Still I'll be attending a game or two for sure! I was fortunate enough to attend 4 games of the 2007 Cricket World Cup including the Final :D

Esp feel sorry for Ireland considering they are ranked higher than Zim, what a joke!

I haven't done the full research, but won't it mean more games of supposed "high quality" cricket. Apparently it will be one pool of the 10 teams and they each play each other once and then the finalists are decided. So more cricket and more money which is what it is all about to the Indian Cricket Council, sorry international...

Yes that is what I have read so good point but I think there will be less games overall.

One interesting article I read recently is this one:
Andrew Miller: The best World Cup of all time | Opinion | Cricinfo Magazine | ESPN Cricinfo

In particular where is states this:
Ratnakar Shetty, the tournament director, admitted as much on the eve of the opening ceremony, when he let slip that the group-stage elimination of both India and Pakistan had torpedoed the entire event in 2007. Every available precaution was taken to ensure against a repeat of such a financial disaster, but when England tested the rejigged format to its absolute limits by threatening a group-stage exit at the hands of Ireland and Bangladesh, the doubts crept in. At the time England's struggles appeared to vindicate the tweaks that had been made, but at boardroom level it became clear that changing the locks alone wouldn't be enough to guard against future intrusions. It was time to roll out the razor wire.

Why do they have to "tweak" it so that one of the "Big 8" can't be knocked out? How does that make it an even playing field? WTF? Personally I thought it was great to see India & Pakistan knocked out in 2007! This bias puts even more weight behind the rumour that the ICC is run by the Asian Countries and the BIG $$$$.........they didn't like being knocked out in 2007 so they tweaked it so it would not happen in 2011 - What a joke!
