it was all caught on a mike guys, every word, they played it tonight (bleeped where necessary of course) on the news. if i can remember correctly, he mentioned "black ****s" "bunch of ****ing animals" "****ing pakistanis".
i think we can close the case on whether he was being racist. it makes me laugh when SA players accuse others of racist taunts.
If he said black, then I'd accept it as racist, but given he is a bit black himself, though he looks more tanned.... Locky it seems to me, that what your saying is as long as Gibbs said your a bloody animal or a bunch of animals to someone the same colour as him it is not racist, but because he said it to someone of a different colour it is racist?
Perhaps you need to better phrase so I understand, because to me it seems like you are having half a dozen of one and half a dozen of the other.....
And lets put this further into perspective, it has been brought to my attention that Gibbs may have actually been referrign to the crowd, as several of them were taunting quite badly, probably because Gibbs' recent form has sucked. He and anothe rplayer were copping it, is he racist if he was referring to people from his own country? (7 people were ejected from the game for their holliganism)
worth considering.
Also the UCB has no choice but to act liek they take this serious or pakistan will up and whinge and abandon the tour.... the Pakistanis take everything seriously, nothign wrong with that... but I think everyone should stop hating on South Africa because of the past... if ANYTHING the UCB is reverse racist by playing coloured people when whites (like Pietersen) are not getting their dues.... but I see no one bitching about that..... and understand why, SA is still going through transition... people should not expect miracles over night....
I agree Richo, abusing someone becuase of their race is a very serious crime, regardless of the person. Just cos Gibbs has a bit of black blood in him, it doesnt let him racially abuse people. While im fairly sure thats not what you were implying, regardless whether it was Gibbs, Ntini, Amla, or a man who is 1/4 white, 1/4 Black, 1/4 middle eastern and 1/4 Asian, racial abuse is not acceptable, especially in a country with South Africa's history; not that Australia is a beacon of moral guidance.
While i dont really agree with the quota system in RSA cricket, its only really been an issue once or twice... Ontong beng selected ahead of Rudolph a few years back, but today, Prince (who was unfortnate not to be MOS against India) Gibbs and Ntini all deserve to be select in the RSA First 11. I wouldnt take what Pietersen does as a "stand against reserve racism", the guy is a f**kwit.
Honestly, i find it strange that something like this, despite its seriousness and the repercussions it will have, is SUCH a big deal, when Zimbabwe and Zimbabwean cricket is a mess, ran by f**kwits and idiots.
