I know that panini hoops was his first production rc but as a panini give away card dated before the mass production to me anything before that could be considered a rookie card as such??

If they are not pack pulled then they are considered 'XRCs'
Just like the 85 Star Jordan cards. They were sold as team sets where you got a card of each player in the team in every bag. The 'True RC' for Jordan is the 86 Fleer, even though he was drafted in 84, it was te first pack pulled card of him.

So much info definitely glad I asked thanks, maybe I should hold onto my 15 or so kyrie hoops cards then just in case he continues his path to greatness!!!.
Well In that case I'm presuming this xrc card is rare as it it 1/1 and a auto I played quite Abit for it so I hope I didn't get stooged, either way I love the card.

I don't think you'll be upset by owning 15 RCs, but I also think these days prefer the 'nicest' RC of a player over the first produced. Because there are dozens of releases each season, people tend to pick the best of the bunch, like Topps Chrome for example.
In Kyrie's case, I think the Prizm refractor is most likely 'the RC to own' over the Hoops, especially since the Hoops is much more common.
As for the one you have, it still is a 1/1, regardless how it was released. It certainly wouldn't attract as high a value as something like the Totally Certified Black RC/Auto 1/1, but it would still be a desired card.
