Professional sports leagues temporarily limit locker room access to players, essential staff

NEW YORK -- Major League Baseball (MLB), Major League Soccer (MLS), the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the National Hockey League (NHL) on Monday issued the following joint statement:

“After consultation with infectious disease and public health experts, and given the issues that can be associated with close contact in pre- and post-game settings, all team locker rooms and clubhouses will be open only to players and essential employees of teams and team facilities until further notice. Media access will be maintained in designated locations outside of the locker room and clubhouse setting. These temporary changes will be effective beginning with tomorrow’s games and practices.

“We will continue to closely monitor this situation and take any further steps necessary to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.”

New memo to to teams says each is required to have several plans in place by Tuesday, including arrangement with an infectious disease specialist, the IDing of a facility to test for coronavirus, a plan to limit number of team and arena staff who'd interact with players.

This is a reality that franchises have been instructed to be prepared for after a memo was sent to every team saying that each franchise is required to have several contingency plans in place by Tuesday, March 10. These include an arrangement with an infectious disease specialist, the identifying of a specific facility to test for coronavirus and a plan to limit the number of team and arena staff members that would interact with players, according to Wojnarowski. In addition to a conference call planned for Monday night involving NBA team doctors and trainers to discuss potential next steps, a conference call meeting is reportedly scheduled for Wednesday afternoon with team owners to figure out how to combat the coronavirus.

LeBron James Says He Won't Play If NBA Enacts No Fans Policy Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

The league has told teams they should identify "actions required if it were to become necessary to play a game with only essential staff present."
The National Basketball Association on Friday night issued a memo to teams informing them of the potential of games being held without fans in the arena due to the coronavirus outbreak.

According to the memo obtained by CNBC, the NBA told teams they should identify “actions required if it were to become necessary to play a game with only essential staff present." Essentially, no fans.

Los Angeles Lakers' superstar LeBron James said that was impossible, and what's more, he would not play if such a plan was put into action.

“We play games without the fans? Nah, that’s impossible,” James said when asked by reporters after the Lakers win over the Milwaukee Bucks. “I ain’t playing if I ain’t got the fans in the crowd. That’s who I play for. I play for my teammates, and I play for the fans. That’s what it’s all about. So if I show up to an arena and there ain’t no fans in there, I ain’t playing. They can do what they want to do.”

The Lakers clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2013 with their Friday night victory.

Earlier in the week, California, Los Angeles County and the city of Los Angeles all declared an emergency after more coronavirus patients were identified.

Warriors to play without fans against Nets on Thursday

The Golden State Warriors’ game against the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night will be played without fans in the arena in an effort to slow the coronavirus outbreak.

Shortly after San Francisco Mayor London Breed banned all gatherings of 1,000 or more people for the next two weeks, the Warriors announced they would go ahead with the game, but without fans at Chase Center. Four other events scheduled through March 21 at the building, which seats more than 18,000 people, have been postponed or canceled, including a Post Malone concert.

Due to escalating concerns about the spread of COVID-19 and in consultation with the City and County of San Francisco, the Golden State Warriors announced today that tomorrow night’s game vs. the Brooklyn Nets at Chase Center will be played without fans. In addition, all events through March 21 will be cancelled or postponed at this time. Fans with tickets to Thursday and Saturday night’s games will receive a refund in the amount paid. Guests who purchased tickets to a concert occurring at Chase Center during the impacted dates will be notified through the promoter directly to either receive a refund or exchange for a rescheduled show at Chase Center.

We will continue to monitor this evolving situation closely to determine next steps for future games and events. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our fans, guests and partners during this unprecedented time.

- What symptoms should I look out for?
  Symptoms, which can take between two to 14 days to appear, include fever, a dry cough, fatigue and difficulty breathing or shortness of breath. Milder cases may resemble the flu or a bad cold, but people may be able to pass on the virus even before they develop symptoms.
- How do I keep myself and others safe?
  Washing your hands frequently is the most important thing you can do, along with staying at home when you’re sick and avoiding touching your face.
- How can I prepare for a possible outbreak?
  Keep a 30-day supply of essential medicines. Get a flu shot. Have essential household items on hand. Have a support system in place for elderly family members.
- What if I’m traveling?
  The C.D.C. has advised against all non-essential travel to South Korea, China, Italy and Iran. And the agency has warned older and at-risk travelers to avoid Japan.The State Department has advised Americans against traveling on cruise ships.
- How long will it take to develop a treatment or vaccine?
  Several drugs are being tested, and some initial findings are expected soon. A vaccine to stop the spread is still at least a year away.

NBA to suspend season following Wednesday's games

NEW YORK -- The NBA announced that a player on the Utah Jazz has preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19. The test result was reported shortly prior to the tip-off of Wednesday's game between the Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena. At that time, Wednesday's game was canceled. The affected player was not in the arena.

The NBA is suspending game play following the conclusion of Wednesday's schedule of games until further notice. The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.

The dollar is a huge barrier at the moment...… AUD/USD is about 0.55 cents at present...… with paypals slice its probably closer to 0.51 - 0.52.
