I mentioned this the other day in a post, but there is a collector who has managed to accquire the entire print run of the UD 8 x 10 Timeless Tens Rookie Portraits.

Here is the link below to his story below.

Yeah, there are only 3 of these (he pulled one of them), and yes its a pretty big effort to get all of these in one collection.

Based on what his goal was (to own them all), and what other collectors are trying to do with specific cards "cornering the market" i.e buying as many of that card you can to artificially raise its price or simply just because they really like that card......

My question is, do you think that trying to collect the entire print run of a single card is selfish?

Cheers
Matt

I don't think it is selfish to try to do it. It's a cool challenge that is most cases is near impossible. I'd like to see examples of someone getting all the cards for a print run greater than 10.

yeah it is selfish. personally i dont see the need to get more than one of the same card, other people obviously do. whether its for pure collecting purposes or just an investment is the thing though, most people who go after a set eg. those timeless tens are only investors who will sell them off in a few years time. i think its just selfish to get the whole set of something when you know theres collectors out there who would really love to have just one of that set in their PC, and would cherish it.

i dont think its selfish, people complete sets and some people strive to get all the entire print run in which is an oustanding achievement in itself.i say collect what you wish weather its the same card/sets.ect

just my opinion

There's a dude in the US who has 9 of the 14 Jameer Nelson gold patch exquisite rookie cards, he's offering $100 a go if u help find the others I think!!!

If he is selfish then so are all the people who have ever invested in anything including shares, property etc so that's how it goes !
It's not selfish imo, whether it's for a pc or not - the guy aquired the cards fair and square. Good luck to him.

It is selfish. Collecting players you like is selfish. Buying cards is selfish coz why spend $200 on a single card when you can use it to sponsor a child across the country who drinks dirty water and have no food?

LOL sorry got carried away.

Nah it's not selfish at all. It's awesome what he accomplished!

So does that make every person who owns a 1/1 selfish? :p
Or people who collect all the letterman cards?
I dont think its selfish at all.

Agreed, I have 3 out of the 5 JR lettermen cards. I know someone who has all 5 of a players name, think its a mighty effort and should be applauded! =D>

I guess I'd be called selfish around here then???

I mean, I try to snavel whatever 1/1, Premium Patches, and especially the Lettermans. So I'd definately have to be called selfish yeah?

Call it selfish, or call it determination, but if you love a card design, and you love collecting (whatever it is you collect) you have every right in the world to chase whatever it is that you wish to....

The way I see it, not selfish, it's called collecting. I have considered trying this with a lesser player for a run of 50 or less of a G-U or auto, would be an interesting collection to go for.

Thanks everyone for the interesting replies.....and Scotty....yeah your so selfish collecting all thoe Devin patches...or whoever the patches really belong to!! ;)

LOL, good call!!!!

I still havent gotten an answer back from Upper Deck about the patches I've got (unable to identify them). #-o

Well, it sucks if you are on the wrong end ot it, let me tell you.

But seriously, everyone collects different things. And if getting an entire set or run is your fancy, then so be it.
