Hey guys recently got my computer cleaned out and now i have a new prob. When i try to go on some sites i am not able to connect to them, does anyone know what the prob may be? i keep getting these messages...

The connection was refused when attemping to contact www.google.com/

its a pain because i cant log onto some important sites like my banking one and that, if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Is it worth trying going into tools then internet options, then delete cookies and all off line temp files. c if that works.

cheers for the reply matey, i have just done those things you mentioned but still no go :( , i wonder what the hell is wrong lol!

it seems to be every site in which i have to log in on, like Ebay i cant log into too. Wizards home loans i cant, bendigo bank i cant either. yahoo nba i cant either.

its a pain in the ass!!!

Try this,

tools --> internet options--->Security tab---> select internet, and set it to medium-low, or low. if it doesnt let you do it that way, in the same tab select custom level --> select medium-low or low.

Cheers
Dave

I remember a while back when bigpond introduced a new IP range, and people were experiencing problems accessing sites because those sites had some sort of IP filtering on them, and the new range hadnt been added yet. I see you have a 60.*.*.* IP, so im wondering if its possibly the same thing. Do you know if you've had this IP range previously?

Doesnt look like it is. Are you on DSL or cable? Have you reset the modem ? Have you a dynamic or static IP? Does bigpond give you a new IP everytime you reboot the modem?

Now that you have said this it does sound like a problem we had with our supplier too. We re-installed our modem and cleaned out our cache a few times then it seemed to work.

What about your pop up blocker. Not only on the internet but your security/antivirus protection and windows operating system. What are they set at?

MagicMan,

it could be alot of things.
but make sure u check ur modem settings.. like bargey said..
it sounds like IP problem..

if u address the problems in details, i may be able to help u..
first, what do u mean by clean out the computer?
did u format it or u just uninstall some softwares from add/remove software?
i am hoping ur using windows xp...

first of all, what browser are u using? this could be easily solved if we can tweak a browser.. if ur using mozilla, firefox, u can go ahead the following solutions..

i am sure ur using DSL... usually, the problem u mentioned sounds like DNS problem between ur DSL modem and ur computer LAN..

if ur obtaining IP address directly from ur modem it's quite easy to fix, right click on ur network connection which u use for internet..

right click, properties, general tab, internet protocol TCP/IP (click on it), and press properties, and make sure u don't see any IP address being inserted, if so, just change to obtain IP automatically, and obtain DNS automatically.

if that doesn't work..

go to internet options, advanced, and click restore default..
i assumed u use Internet explorer.

if all of the above doesn't work, u can state the problem in details..
but the weird thing is, u have to reconnect again and again... which is not right..

hope that helps.

im betting its the anti-virus or whatever security software your using. is it norton, cos that stuff hapened to me when i used it?

And are you now using Internet Explorer 7? When I upgraded I noticed some of my settings had changed and I couldn't access some sites but it basically came down to security settings.

ok ill give a little more info hehe.

Im using Netscape Navigator, then i tried Explorer. Same thing happened. I got rid of a whole bunch of programs recently and got rid of Norton Antivirus with it, i installed this thing called NOD32 Anti Virus System, which was reccomended by a mate.

I have ADSL and am with Teltra and my IP changes all the time im pretty sure. Hope this helps guys. Lol sorry as my computer skills are not the best hehe

Problem solved. Cheers guys and thanks to all who offered there advice/help its much appreciated!

I went and changed some settings on my firewall, then reset it on and off and now it works :)

Mavs - yeh my mate told me about it and i think its better then Norton also!

Of course Ozcards works or else i would be in rehab....
