Introduction
With 10 weeks out of our 18 week season in the books, we are careening towards the finish line of our COMC Office Pack Battle League! Over the last two weeks the rich have continued to get richer, while a couple hopeful Managers have made a run at breaking out of the pack and into the upper echelons of the standings.
If you’re not familiar with our scoring system or the rules of our league, you can read our introductory blog here. If you’ve missed some updates and want to catch up on how we got to our current standings, you can read all pack battle league updates here.
Current Standings
Brian’s seven points over the last two weeks leapfrogged him from 16th place all the way to 8th. Dylan has also been on the move over the last two weeks, moving from the 11th to the 7th spot on a 6 point performance.
While 10th – 17th place are only separated by 3 points, the climb up the ladder is starting to get steeper and steeper as the top five continue to separate themselves from the pack.
Home Run King Standings:
Having cooled off substantially, James was only able to add a single point to his lead in the Home Run King standings. He sits three points ahead of Brandon(13 pts), who has a one point lead over Tad and Kevin. Sean rounds out the top 5 with 11 points.
Hit King Standings:
Kevin and Brandon swapped wins in the Hits category over the last two weeks to keep pace with one another in the standings. Kevin leads overall with 12 points, with Brandon just two points behind. Angela and Bob sit in a tie for 3rd-4th with seven points.
Strikeout King Standings:
It took ten weeks, but a trend finally emerged in the Strike Out Kings standings as Jeremy was able hold on to the top spot by notching a Week 9 win in the category. He sits in first with nine points, with Dylan and Steve close behind at eight points. Tim and Brian are in striking distance at six points.
Strikeouts remain the most competitive category by far, and will certainly be the race to watch down the stretch. Like a win in FirstEnergy Stadium (Have fun Googling that!), fielding a competitive pitching staff remains a difficulty for some Managers. It should be interesting to see if Manager’s start trading to focus specifically on strike outs in coming weeks.
Week 9 Results (May 24th-30th )
To absolutely no one’s surprise, Brandon was able to dominate the HR category with the 1-2 super combo of Mike Trout and Bryce Harper. Seven Managers managed to put just one home run or less this week, so there was a serious power outage. Kevin rode the bats of Buster Posey and Jose Altuve to an easy win in the hits category. Geoff was able to tie Kevin on the interesting combo of Salvador Perez and Adam Jones. Strikeouts belonged to Jeremy thanks to Stephen Strasburg‘s 8 K’s and Aaron Nola‘s 10 K performance.
HR Points: Brandon (3), Geoff (3), Bob (2), Jeff (1), Sean (1)
Hits Points: Kevin (3), Geoff (2), Jeff (2), Brandon (1)
K’s Points: Jeremy (3), Steve (2), Tim (1)
Week 10 Results (May 31st – June 6th)
You get points, you get points, EVERYONE gets points! In our HR category, 17 of the 20 managers were able to notch at least third place points thanks to a log jam in the category. Just two homers was good enough to net 3rd place points. Angela (Giancarlo Stanton, Jose Ramirez), Brian (Cody Bellinger, Edwin Encarnacion), and Grant (Manny Machado, Andrew Benintendi) led the field with 5 HR’s each. In the hits category, Brandon (Andrew Benintendi, Brandon Crawford) and Bob (Brandon Crawford, Matt Kemp) tied at the top with 18 hits a piece. Finally, in strikeouts, Dylan scorched the competition with both Nat’s aces Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg.
