As a lot of you know, I have tried to form a basketball team for Perth members on this site in the past, but we've always been short numbers so we haven't been able to come up with anything. Around the time I was trying to put a team together another friend wanted me to play for his team around the same time on the same night. As the Ozcards team wasn't feasible I benched the idea and joined this other team. My mates team ended up being short a couple of players after all and I had played a game or 2 with 2 other members on this site, namely whitechoc and reign, so we promptly recrtuited the 2. They are pretty close mates so it was pretty good having 2 guys who already knew each others game. We had a team, and hey, it eventually maintained 3 members of these boards along with a couple of my other mates. There was no team name (and we don't really care about the name), so we dubbed ourselves the Ozballers.
Well the seasons over and heres how we went. We won our first 10 games straight piling on between 50-80pts per game. We then had a little slump with our next 4 games losing 3 and tieing in one. We were then back on track with a couple more wins and ended the season in the number one spot by a single point.
Last week was the semi and we were back to our blistering best, scoring 78pts and winning by 17pts. The grand final was this last week and we ended up with a double OT loss which was an unfortunate blemish after a great 1st season. Just want to say thanks to Eric and Craig from these boards for the season effort and the other boys that played, and we'll be back better than ever for the new season!
Season higlights/lowlights
- Eric making the game winning 3 pt play after being downby 2 points with 5 seconds on the clock
- Craig getting T'd up after taking a jab to the jaw followed by his ejection in our first loss for the season
- Yours truly getting T'd up for "apparently" calling the ref "freaking blind" (it was all speculation and I think the ref could have been deaf as well) with 10s left while we were up by 2 and the opposition hitting there 2 free throws after the siren to tie the game
- Finish with the top spot after our first season with a record of 12-3-1
- The debacle that is the referees at Perry Lakes (no harder opposition than these chumps, I mean human beings).
And...
My first ever season MVP award, that means absolutely nothing after the crushing defeat we had!
I'll let the other guys add any other season highlights that may have slipped my mind!
Congrats on the successful season, mate. I'm from Perth originally and played for about two seasons at Perry Lakes, having also played at Vic Park and Morley. I must say that whilst I loved the competition at Perry Lakes, I've never seen worse refereeing (which culminated in my ejection in our last game there!). Calling the ref "freaking blind" is tame compared with some of the stuff that went on down there! Good to here you enjoyed the season, though!
