Voters on*NFL.com*have made their choice. Quarterback*Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers is the*Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week*for games played on December 15-19, the NFL announced today.*Newton threw for 149 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers’ 28-13 victory over the Houston Texans. Newton also added 55 yards on seven carries on the ground. This is the second time Newton has been named Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week, joining his victory in Week 4.
Newton was selected from among five finalists through fan votes on*NFL.com.* The other finalists were wide receiver*A.J. Green*of the Cincinnati Bengals, wide receiver*Greg Little*of the Cleveland Browns, cornerback*Chris Rucker*of the Indianapolis Colts and linebacker*Aldon Smith*of the San Francisco 49ers.
After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com throughout the month of January. The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.
