Hi all,

As some of you would be aware, I canvassed the forum for some donations recently to give out to kids from the Kensington/Flemington and North Melbourne housing estates as part of a program I run in Melbourne.

Several Ozcarders went above and beyond the call of duty and sent me a heap of cards to add to my own donations to give out to the kids, or more to the point, allow them to hunt for them.

The latest installment of this program ran on Friday the 10th of August, and was attended by over 45 local boys, 32 of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds (children of substance-abusers, domestic violence, poverty, neglect, etc...).

Basically, I made up redemption cards and placed them 'randomly' in the boxes of cards were provided for the kids and they had to rummage to find them. Yes, some commons may have been harmed in the conducting of this program.

Some of the cards the kids walked away with included

Kurt Angle WWE event used card
Hulk Hogan WWE event used card
Torrie Wilson WWE event used card (One of the boys was sniffing it!)
Buh Buh Ray Dudley WWE autographed card
Stacey Kiebler WWE auto card
Kane WWE event used card
10 x Simpsons scratch and sniff cards
Kurt Thomas auto
Malik Rose auto
Patrick O'Bryant auto
Saer Sene auto
Jermaine O'Neal plexiglass auto
Mike Miller plexiglass auto
JR Smith Trilo3y GU
Al Jefferson trilo3y GU
Ike Diogu GU
Geez, I am struggling to remember now, but there was over 55 auto, or GU items.
Jordan inserts x 5
Kobe inserts x 8
About 150 NBA inserts + wrestling, footy and cricket inserts
Oh, Nathan Bracken cricket auto card
And most of Ruckers' $20 lot I bought the other week as well.

I'd like to thank the following members for their generosity and good will. If there is such a thing as karma, some good stuff will be coming their way soon.

They're all stars, and their efforts made some kids, who do not have a lot, very, very happy as they left. If I left anyone out, I am genuinely sorry.

I provided dozens of top loaders and penny sleeves for the kids to keep their new treasured items, and many were back at the venue the next day to trade, brag and show off their new items.

This is something I've done regularly for the last six months, about every second month, and numbers of kids attending continue to grow.

Unfortunately, I have now completely exhausted my resources as far as insert cards, common, top loaders... basically everything goes. All I have left is my PC, and as you can see by the list above, I even let some of my wrestling stuff go to make this a success.

If you have some cheaper GU cards, or inserts, or hell, even commons of decent players (they've learned who the crappy players are!) that you would be willing to donate for this worthy program, please PM me. It would be GREATLY appreciated. Without help, this'll be the last one I am able to run.

But anyway, in summary, t'was a great night and many, many kids walked away thrilled with what they got.

Thankyou.
Brett

Brett,

you have done a great job...

keep up the great work, i might be able to donate some if i get to do some box break, lately, none lol..

thanks for writing in details, hope u can do that again soon....

Hey man ...i want to donate ? how do i do it ?

I probably won't be doing it again for a couple of months. I'm buying a few boxes and I have some mates sending me some things, so closer to the date, I'll definitely let you know.

Thanks again to those who made offers. :)

Max,

now you can donate to Owen's disadvantaged children project...

the thread is here..

Hopefully, i will have enough cards to come back with Brett's project again in the future...

Hopefully!!! :D

Because I have totally and utterly exhausted my supply of lower end inserts, GU and autos as of the last one. I mean it. My entire collection of cards now numbers under 200 in total. That's pretty bloody sad, but I have seen a lot of good come from it. Bear in mind it used to be a PC of over 800, plus thousands of other cards... :(
