ok so im just going to put this out there as it amuses me more than annoys.
i would like to know why the favourite thing for people to do when trying to buy from me is post links to similar cards that have sold on ebay and say they are only willing to match the lowest a card has gone for.
i have dealt with a few people on here now and most deals have gone smoothly as none of the cards were super high value but i have also had a heap of msgs asking if i would sell some of the rarer more expensive cards i have pulled. i have pretty much started to reply that they are pc as when i get into it i find out that even though they are the biggest collector of a certain player or team they want to pay nothing for the cards.
sometimes 1 of the same card has even just sold on ebay for lets say $200 but they say they would only pay $100.
now is where i say that fortunately i am in a situation where i dont need to sell any of my cards but i am willing to sell or trade to help a genuine collector with their pc and most times if its a $5-10 card that i could never sell i will give it to them for free.
i just dont understand why certain people think i will sell to them for nothing when i could easily put it on ebay and make a lot more.
my all time favourite has to be the prices i get for 1/1 cards and the attitude that follows when i decline or mention what i want for it.
all this is in a lead up to the fact i want to do a sale thread but want to know if it would even be worth the trouble.
simply, how can you want a card worth $500 and expect me to sell it for $100?
im not busting all these boxes to pull out your cards

Its the same with most things in life...... a lot of people expect something for nothing. However when the roles are reversed that very same card or similar in their collection is worth 200% of the latest ebay sale.

I'll tell you this. The longer you spend on this forum the more you will get to know those who will deal with you fairly and are in it for the hobby and the site and also those who are after a card as cheap as they can get it or as high as they can sell it. I'll also note that OCT probably is the best site to buy and sell cards on. There are a lot of guys on here who are fair dealers and look for the best deal for both parties. These guys are the majority on here. You venture to other sites *cough Blowout cough* then you will find a bunch of penny pinching low ballers.

I will also remark it is very hard to sell cards at the moment. Whether its the economy or the hobby itself its just impossible to move anything regardless of prices.

I'd advise you to start a sale thread but be specific with prices and state that you wont budge on them. This will deter a lot from PMing you low ball offers and those that do i'd just ignore.

Keep at it buddy

my main concern is the pricing of some of the cards i have as there is nothing to compare them to. just like anyone else i want what would be fair. i dont want to over price them or sell my self short. and most of all i dont want to deal with the obvious people who are trying to lowball me to make a turn around quick sale and profit.
id rather sell for a persons pc, otherwise i will just hold onto them

for instance how would i come up with a price for the pistons quad patch booklet 1/1
right day, right buyer it could go for a small fortune

Yeah dude, that's just how it goes, especially in this hobby. What Rhys and Heath have said above is very true. Being upfront that these are your prices, take 'em or leave 'em saves you a lot of time, hassle, and silly PMs.

I think with 1/1s it comes down to the release and the player. Now if the release is fresh the card should be worth more than if its a few years old, unless its a star player. That said it depends on the release, the player, the market on that player etc.

I find myself in the position of being asked to pay stupid amounts for TImberwolves cards sometimes, okay yes Kevin Love and Rubio cards should go for a good price, but when I get asked to pay a small fortune for nobodies its frustrating. I hate offering, I hate offending. I for one always ask, I will then maybe provide a reference if I think its a bit high, but in the end its up to the seller I feel. That said if I am buying its for PC.

I feel if you are not comfortable with a deal, don't make it. I sometimes dont feel comfortable in trades, and I will try to negotiate but I will shut it down if my gut doesn't feel comfortable. That said I will trade to help others too if I can.

That said, Gold Totally Certified Randolph PM me LOL

In the short time i've been trading on here, I've found that to sell something, in most cases you need to take the Beckett price and divide by about 5.

I'm a newbie and my problem is I don't know prices, nor do I bother looking up prices on ebay, if I like a card and the price is reasonable I will buy it without comparison, I will trade a card worth say $10.00 for a few base I need, the way I look at it everything in my bucket is to get my PC chase. if someone PM's me and asks how much I pull a figure out of my ass, I have no idea, when I ask how much and they say make an offer I usually offend, as to me a card that you have that you do not want or need is worthless unless you are going to PC it, of course there are exceptions, like Jordan and Lebrons etc.

On the flip side I have paid over the odds for base cards on here but meh, I didn't know and didn't research, but now I just go to COMC and purchase the cards I want, most are fair prices because there are usually multiples of that card to pick from. I trade here, but don't take offense is someone throws out a lowball offer, it never hurts to ask, and then you know where you stand.

i usually go by the above mentioned middle ground pricing from ebay but also like to point out sometimes that the prices have been rising everytime the same card has gone on so therefore its worth the highest at that time. i dont mind doing most cards at lower prices but theres a limit to how low you should offer thats for sure. ive said to a fair few people id rather wait and get a fair price so as to not sell myself short or rip them off. im not here to profit from this. i will most of the time trade higher in value for cards for my pc and often throw in cards or lower a price to accommodate others and help their pc

Point out the lowballers ate let me at 'em Anthony!!

I have dealt with you a few times and EVERY one of the deals has involved you either trading for less value than you are giving, or trading for something you might not really even want, just to help me get some PC cards!

Keep at it mate, just post everything with prices where possible, but with the ones you can't find sales for, you don't have a choice but to ask for offers!

In regards to BV, lately i've found Beckett low column is actually quite close to the ebay final prices right now. Just something i've noticed through recent times. I said it in the "Group hug" thread, if you have a price in mind and you don't want to budge on it, don't. The only reason you HAVE to drop the price is if you NEED the money.

When it comes for setting 1/1 prices, work out what product it came from, how much that box cost and compare that to other 1/1s of similar calibre players. Adjust compared to box price and look of the card.
