Card Postage

I've recently just involved myself in an argument with a seller over postage on a singe card and was wondering whether or not you guys think I'm in the right or not. They have charged $4 postage on the single card and I have recieved much larger items from eBay for still under $4 in a larger packet (granted it didn't weight much, but neither does 1 card). The seller then came back and ranted on and on about how it costs blah blah to do blah blah and postage isn't free.

Anyways, am I wrong to think the postage should be $2.50 or so.... Either way I just payed as I didn't want this to go on and on.

Opinions?

Not too bad! Is it from the US? Ive paid $10 for 1 card before- but the card was worth it!

Its from Australia. To my knowledge it costs around $1.30 or so for a padded envelope (which isn't 100% neccasary) and maybe a dollar or so for stampage.

Yeah- in oz its only about $2 all up for post, but some charge for toploader, handling + pocket liner!

4 dollars is pretty steep, even the things you say (top loader, penny sleeve and handling) shouldnt really be over 3 bucks at the very most

yes i thing it is to step.but i notice quiet a few people on e-bay seem to charge a lot for the first card brought and next to nothing for the next few cards you buy.

what i do if i think the postage is to much is reverse postage.
Before the auction ends i ask the seller if it is ok if i post them a toploader , sleeve and a return stamped or express envelope. I ask them to tape the top of the toploader and tape the toploader into the inside of the envelope so it doesnt slide around. Works well for me and if they refuse i just dont buy.

$4 is 4 bucks....

Minimum cost to send a card is approx $1.85. Say $0.50c to cover the toploader, which more than likely came from another seller off ebay.

So you're really only complaining about $1.66....

You work? What's your hourly rate? Is it worth spending half a dozen emails arguing about a buck???

You also have to take into consideration a few other points.

1, what did the card cost

2, what would it have cost from overseas (plus postage too)

3, what would it have cost you in a trade

4, ask yourself again, is it worth arguing over a buck...

These steps should save a lot of anguish in future. lol.

Yeah usually its just easier to max bid a couple of bucks lower than what you would have done normally

That's right. Is it really worth arguing over $1.50?

Usually costs about $1 for postage, $1 for padded envelope (which for our forum is the recommended way of shipping) and a little for the top loader (?$.50).

Yes, the top loader may be off someone else on ebay and the envelope recycled, but the seller still had to pay for it in the 1st place.

So all up about $2.50.

But if those were the conditions on the auction, then that's the way it was set out. If you win, there's no point arguing cos it was stated plain and clear.

No if it was an exquiste

then it would be a bit more for the case it gets sent in.

$4 is not very expensive depending on what your situation is.. but if it's stated and if u think it's not fair, i think it's better not to bid... some sellers are tricky, but i don't see very tricky sellers in Australia... compared to US sellers.. and half of them do not take paypal nowadays..

Usually 4$ or more postage scenerio comes up...when u wanted the card and u won with .99 cents and then asking u 4$ and additional like 1$.. it's crazy.. last night, i won some auctions from the seller (member here).. many GUs cards are won at .99 cents.. the postage?? FREE.. (Thanks Ben)...

For me, postage is always collateral issue in cards collecting, i would deal with a few good men.. forget dealing with mission impossibles in the future that would have caused risky business and only pay more than 4$ for top gun cards,

i am just joking, but not sarcastic..

I agree with mavs. $4 isnt that much. I guess you bought a cheap card but if you paid $500 for the card you wouldnt be worried about $4 to get it there safe.

Yes, but it depends how much the cards cost! If it's $200+.. I guess not.

I do not think that should count, if both are sent by the same type of shipping.

If the card costs $5, it still costs $2.50 for shipping by regular post. If the card costs $10000, it will still cost $2.50 by regular post, but you would be very stupid to do that!

So that being said, yes you may be willing to pay more for shipping an expensive card..................BECAUSE you are paying for a different service (way of shipping).

Yes I do work and I earn enough to budget for around $30 or so on cards a week. However, money wasn't the real problem. What it comes down to me is honesty and not taking advatage to earn a few $ here and there. If it costs $2.50, then why should it be no more than $2.50?

1. The card cost $6 something, so it wasn't an overly expensive outing.
2. Maybe between $5-10, but that is overseas...
3. In a trade, maybe slightly more, but thats why everyone uses eBay; to buy items at a more affordable price.
4. I never started arguing with emails. I rather just said one sentence asking why postage was higher than any other seller I had used in the past for a single card. I buy cards from Max all thee time and he charges 69c for a single card, is he ripping himself off, or just charging what he thinks is right? I think everyone knows the answer.

And don't worry Mavsman, I don't think any anguish was lost, just looking for accuracy and respect for eBay trading, cheers.

that's generally what i meant. a card which cost you more, should be sent by a more expensive service, but will thus increase the security of your card. fair enough.
