Some of you may remember that about 2-3 times per year I try to run a cards for kids program at my workplace, catering to a great number of boys from the local area who basically, have bugger all.
Many of these kids are from public housing and children of alcoholics, drug abusers, are abused themselves, or neglected. What we provide is a place where these kids can come to and feel safe, and we run programs for them. One thing I instituted several years ago was trading card hunts. I used to part own a small trading card shop in Melbourne in the mid nineties so I had a heap of older cards/inserts, plus, the proverbial shitload of newer stuff. Over the course of this program running, I've all but exhausted what was once my tradebait and so on. 95% of the cards I had are gone.
And so, here I am, turning to my fellow Ozcards members. I have been a trustworthy trader here at Ozcards, even giving away mutliple things in the past. Hopefully those people will remember my generosity and return it now - not for me, but for kids who relish the chance to build their collections, but can't afford it.
What I have learned is that the kids don't chase high end stuff. They don't know enough about it, but if they find a numbered card, even in the hundreds, knowing that there are only x-amount in the world available and they have one, puts a massive smile on their face. Of course, any GU or auto cards of guys who are just plain never gonna be anything, or you just plain hate, are happily accepted.
So, generous people, I ask that if you have anything to donate, to please do so. Last time round, I thought it would be the last time I did this for the kids. A couple of members here really made it worthwhile and combined with the stuff I threw in, kids found the following.

And most of Ruckers' $20 lot I bought the other week as well.
If you have anything to spare, please consider donating to this. I know you'll never get to see it with your own eyes, but take it from me - it is a brilliant sight to see these kids find an auto, or GU card in the boxes (I usually put a HBM-special redemption in a top loader. They find that, then exchange it for the actual card. Works well - no damage to the decent cards).
I've already bought lots off Ruckers, Webbermad and others to use as part of this.
