The Collingwood Football Club wishes to announce that Michael Malthouse and Nathan Buckley will join forces on the Collingwood coaching staff from November 2009.
Current senior coach Malthouse has signed a two-year contract extension as senior coach as part of a five-year commitment.
Malthouse will continue to be senior coach in 2010 and 2011 before becoming the director of coaching from 2012-14. His new role will be part of the football department run by chief of football Geoff Walsh, with responsibilities including mentoring the coaching staff and advising the football department.
Buckley, who retired at the end of 2007 as one of the greatest Collingwood players in history, has also signed a five-year contract with the club. He will be an assistant coach in 2010 and 2011, before taking over as the senior coach from 2012-2014.
The Collingwood board unanimously signed off on the decision on Monday night.
Collingwood president Eddie McGuire made the announcement at the Lexus Centre on Tuesday, and hailed it as a great day for Collingwood.
"This is a wonderful day for the Collingwood Football Club, with two of the most respected people in football uniting together to secure our future success," he said.
"This arrangement could not have come together without enormous goodwill from Mick and Nathan, two of the greatest servants in the Club's history."
Buckley's specific assistant coaching duties for next year will be defined when the annual football department review takes place at the end of the season.
