My name is Adam, nickname Flavzz and I am 22yrs old from Adelaide. Here is a bit of my history in the hobby.
I collected cards during my childhood and my fondest memories are of 94-5 Skybox and Upperdeck etc with a Michael Jordan Center Stage always being one of those cards I always wanted but could never afford or pull from a pack.
I dont know why I stopped collecting but i guess the whole trading card scene died down later in the 90's and growing up in the country made it hard to keep collecting when specialised card shops started vanishing. A few months ago I was walking through the local mall and found a card collecting shop which I hadnt seen before and I thought, hey what the hell!! I walked in and was amazed at all of the jersey cards and autos that were in the glass cabinet. I had never seen a jersey card and even autos were extremely rare when I was collecting as a kid. Overwhelmed with all of the memories flooding back of my childhood and all of these new glossy cards staring back at me I had to buy some!!
Ofcourse when I was a kid I had literally no money and was only lucky enough to scab a packet of cards off the parents every now and again and could never even consider buying a sealed box. I also have a clear memory of my mate busting a box of skybox and as an 11 year old this was the coolest thing i had ever seen!! But now the tide has turned and I realised, "hey I now have my own money!!". I ended up diving straight to a box of 05/06 Upperdeck and I know they arent exactly top end cards but they kick started my love for the hobby again. I was totally dumbstruck about jersey cards as I'd never seen anything like them and wondered where I had been in the last 10 years.
Since then ive got a box of lebron melo rivals which were average and UD rookie debut which I was happy with getting plenty of new rookies etc. Im now considering UD Sweet Shot for my next box. Ive also started collecting Gilbert Arenas cards who I think is a great player and watching him this year in the playoffs Im always amazed at the ease he racks up numbers and drains the triple.
