Milwaukee Bucks star Andrew Bogut has slammed Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy’s comments on Richmond’s controversial tactics to beat Adelaide on the weekend.
The Australian giant who was the Bucks number one draft pick last year took note of Sheedy not wanting to play 'that basketball crap’ and had his own words to say.
"Basketball is played all around the world, it's probably the number two sport in the world behind soccer, it can't be too crap if every country is playing it," Bogut said.
Although based in the USA, Bogut does follow the Bombers in the AFL, but he also said that the style of play that Richmond used against the Crows was just about getting the win and not about pretty football.
"I think a lot of teams are going to adopt that style now because you can win like that. It's ugly but if you can get the win and get in the grand final then the fans are going to be happy," he said.
Controlling the tempo of the ball and not allowing the opposition to gain possession is a basketball tactic that has been frequently used at the end of AFL matches.
Well Sheeds was a dickhead to compare the way Richmond played to basketball, given you have to move the ball quickly in basketball to beat backcourt violations and the shot clock.
Richmond played a lot more like croquet or lawn bowls than they did basketball.
sheeds shouldnt have mentioned anything about basketball.. your right.. cos i prefer that to football, but still, whats bogut got to put his $$ worth in for? Probably the same reason sheedy spoke about wallace, cos it was brought up in a q for them to answer.. move on.. who cares
