Best case to buy?

Looking for a case that's under $1,000 and that has some good inserts that, if I wanted to, could be sold off for about 60%+ of what I paid (bought for 1k, sold for $600 etc.).

These any good?:

2010/11 Panini Season Update Basketball Hobby 20-Box Case

2010/11 Upper Deck North Carolina Basketball Hobby 20-Box Case

2010/11 Panini Prestige Basketball Rack 20-Box Case


Even prepared to go for a few boxes rather then a case. For example; Limited, Gold Standard etc.

Not looking to get rich, but more to have fun with as minimal losses as possible.

Good luck with your choice Aidan Of the 3 you considered above,

1st choice - 10/11 Update will give you lots of auto and game used hits
2nd option - 10/11 North Carolina will give you heaps of MJ cards and possibly a Jordan auto if you are really lucky
Pass - Prestige rack box I would give the wide berth

Agree with Terry mate! Chance of patches, dual autos and star autos in Update. NC gives a chance at a Jordan, but there are a lot of scrub autos to be had.

20 boxes x 14 inserts per box = 280 (avg. $1 per card = $280)
20 boxes x 3 memorabilia p.b = 60 (avg. $5 per card = $300)
20 boxes x 1 auto = 20 (avg $7 per card = $140)

Total of $720 out of original $850 (inc. shipping)

I think your averages are a bit high mate! Numbered inserts aren't really a desired card, especially from a lower end product. You get player collectors who want them, but obviously only their player's cards.

Maybe you should see if you can find a case break on youtube and take note of what cards they pulled, then scan eBay for prices.

But honestly, I don't think you should spend your money on a case. If you are so concerned with he amount of money you will get back, you would be better off spending $150 out of your $850 on some PC cards that you KNOW you want, then keep the rest in your pocket - Guaranteed to end up with at least $700 in cash when you are done

I have got to agree with drob here. If your buying for the sole purpose of making money back, then you may be very disappointed as you very rarely make that sort of percentage return unless you get very lucky, especially with low end boxes.

Having said that, my accrued store credit at Who Dat will be going towards a case of Threads in October, and I can't wait.

It's way out dude. In theory yes but in reality no. Your assuming that you can sell every single card you bust. Sadly that's not the way a hobby work's other wise everyone would be rich. As Adam has pointed out you can sell some cards to player collectors but none of these products are really desirable. Would be so fun to bust a case of any of these products but not really profitable.

Cheers guys. When I gave those numbers I was think of a best case scenario of actually selling everything. I'm really not looking to make all my money back, just want to open some fun boxes, maybe sell some cards of interest to others off and collect the rest.

Fair enough! Just keep in mind, that the reason most people open cards by the case, is because when they collate the boxes, they usually make sure that every case contains a 'case hit', which is usually something big. For example, in 10-11 Gold Standard, they guaranteed that every case would have at least 1 14K gold piece, 1 Dual auto and at least 1 autos of Kobe or John Wall.

I have had a look at the configuration for season update and it doesn't seem to have any guaranteed case hits, which means that you would probably have just as much luck busting loose boxes as you would a full case. If this IS the case, then ,maybe you should spend half on loose boxes and half on a nice single card or 2??

Just have a bit more of a look into the case configurations first!

i recomend the old gold standard as if your were looking to sell some of the cards there are 5-6 people buying on here from that product if you pull the right stuff
also the cards look awesome

This years Limited is just over the 1000 mark for a case at Dave and adams , not a half bad product
