Thought this might make an interesting discussion. Here are my picks.
Worst
1. 1997 Dynamic "Fatty's Turn it up". Horrible, just horrible.......nothing more i can say. Is it any wonder they went broke soon after.
2. 2010 Champions. A dud for Select and collectors. Full or boring old recycled idea's. Whoever thought Diamond Phenomenon cards where a good choice as the top insert for the set needs their head examined.
Best
1. 2003 XL - without a doubt in my mind the best made. Signature cards galore. Jersey cards, legend cards. Nothing has ever come close IMO.
=2. 2008 Centenary - to me Select really did this milestone justice. A very collectable and well executed set.
=2. 1996 Signature Gold - 36 signature cards. Awesome set that came at an unfortunate time. Would have been a best seller had it come out in 2006 vs. 1996 when the card industry in Australia had literally sh*t itself.
my favs would be the 1995 series 1 and 2 ( just because that was the set i started with) and i was pretty impressed with series 1 and 2 this year...
i liked the emphasis on the rookies etc from series 1 but the signature cards looked pretty poor.....over all i rated strike pretty high except for opening up to 10 packs in a row full of base cards
Yeah but i really like those sets. I do like 88 and 89 aswell but i dont like the rounded corners.
Select Releases i like 2003, 2005 Power and 2006 Invincibles.
I won't say worst but the Centenary set left out so many top players from the 5 cards per team sets it was laughable. How Nathan Hindmarsh was left out of a pivotal set says as much about the NRL as it does about Select.
2006 Series 2 that left out El Masri, Ryan, Hindmarsh and Menzies, amongst others was a crap set.
