Is this my first thread in the entertainment section??

Why is it that Aussies go to the moves like no others?? I get going to see some movies you want to see but I know people that go virtually every week or more??

Its ok if there is something decent on but.....

Its a good first date or so but......4th, 5th, 100th...

Coke and popcorn is so valuable soon the US will invade all factories that produce the stuff as per ltr its more valuable than oil.

Do you guys kick on after the movies or is it the night out and thats it??

Every time I go I get some rude people near me talking on phones and get up and threaten them. I'm an angry angry man at times

I'd say i go maybe 4 times a year only when something really good is on that I want to see.......

been 3 times only in 07 and was dissapointed twice.

When I was 20-21ish I was one of those that went every weekend. (Maybe the movies were better then!!)
Now I've got kids and the best we can manage is Bigpond DVD movies....we don't even have to leave the house (except to post them back!!)

On a slightly different note....a girl I work with told me that she went to see Zodiac and another couple were there and "being were overly intimate" during the screening. Apparently they were very noisy whilst they went about their business and left 20 minutes before the end of the film. You'd think that for the price of movies tickets they could have got a motel room and dinner for almost the same price!!!

I go for the big ones. Usually 6 or 7 times a year.

Funny thing Chad when i went last week to the Pirates, i had this mother sitting right next to me and her kids sitting behind (it was that packed), anyhow the movies started up and all of a sudden she gets the phone out doesnt she.... bloody text messaging and herphone wasnt even on silent so you could hear each button she pressed!

oh my she had it back in her purse one the movie got past the opening credits, i wasnt gonna put up wit that shit all night. Suprisingly her kids were better behaved then her lol, didnt hear a boo from them!!!

Movies for me are only for blockbuster films. Star wars , Lord of the Rings etc. It is not worth going to see some anything else because there is no difference to watching it at home - needless to say i had to sit through Love actually and my big fat greek wedding as trade offs for my choices  .

Saw about four/five movies this year, but i never watch on crowded days.. weekends or opening nights.. and everyone seemed okay with me... or maybe i just didn't notice....

:)

Yea we only go when something really good is on and something that is awesome to see on a huge screen with the sound blaring!
The coolect thing about my father in law going to China once a month is that he tends to bring home loads of dvds of movies that haven't come out here yet, so it saves alot of money in the end. Plus in this day and age where you can pretty much download anything off the net within days of it being released, I'm surprised actual movie going numbers are still so high.
But as for the actual act of going to the movies, I hate it. Like you said Chad, there's always those people that can't help talking throughout the movie, the ones that get calls on their mobiles, the food is shit (we always sneak in our own) and the floors are always sticky, whats up with that? ;)

I hate going to the flicks and unfortnately, my missus loves it. I personally can see the attraction of watching a movie with 50 other people. I used to love going in the middle of day when i worked nights; not a person in the cinema

The other week when Pirates came out, I finally relented and we decided to go... we had dinner before at the cafe next to the cinema; after seeing the riot like behaviour outside by the 60 odd 16/17 year olds, im never going to the cinema again...

I personally would like to see movies more often than I get too. For example I haven't seen Spiderman 3 yet ot 28 Weeks Later which are 2 movies I really do want to see.

Saw Pirates 3 a few nights ago, then we kicked on to a chinese restaurant where we really began the night with many beverages of the alcoholic type, then to the pub! Good times, oh yeah and the movie was not too bad but dragged on a bit!

I only like going to see good movies. This year I have been to see... um Spiderman 3.... oh there was another oh yes TMNT and that was a waste of money.....

When I was 14 I used to go every week... but movies were better then.

I think i'd rather go with someone than on my own as well. Most of the audiences I have attended with have been well behaved.

I generally take the better half every few months to the movies....but the quality and our interest in whats been on at the movies hasnt been there much this year.

I do remember once going to a movie and there were 3 people in the cinema.......and what made it worse was that the single person other than us HAD to sit beside us........not happy!

my gf and i go about 10 times a year. I just try to avoid my gf's mum when shes like "we are going to the movies do you want to go with us?!"

tip is to ask what movie they want to see, and say "aw na we were planning on going to the other one"....that way if its a comany movie i wont have my gf's dad laughing every 2 seconds (he laughs over jack sh*t) or my gf's mum talking through the entire film about the food they got.

here they sometimes have the drive-in...we have been to a few....i like that a bit more becuase you feel more private in your car (with no gf's parents to bug us...i mean me)

I'm not a huge movie fan so I don't go very often. It's also quite expensive, so I'd rather save up the money and rent it on DVD when they come out.

$11 each at the movies vs $2.95 New release? And if it's me and my wife, then for $22 I can get 7 DVDs!

I'll only go see the big ones on the Big screen (eg LOTR etc).

I think a lot of people go out the the movies cos they have nothing else better to do in a big group.

Ersk

i think taking a girl to the movies is the best thing to do if you dont feel like talking to eachother (or looking) perfect first date...nothing can go wrong then

I used to love going to the movie marathons that they'd put on on a long weekend....also nothing beats the pure movie experience of going to the drive-in and having to kill a Huntsman on the inside of the windscreen!!!

I concur.

I took my current girlfriend to the movies on our first date (in hindsight a bad move cos now she thinks I love going to the movies), and I didnt have to think up any witty stories or be charming, all I had to do was sit there and not try and grope her
