Australian Idol should be cancelled.

WOW the entertainment section can be a good one :v:

At first I thought this lot was a lot of 12 that you got to choose a few to go thru with others. THEN I realise its THE TOP 12 singers that they managed to find and PUT thru so far

How can people that claim to be so musically orientated not understand or know music genres and how can people that can't hold a tune get this far

Go to your local and support decent music and decent up and coming artists not looking for the easy way out

Hahaha great read Chad. Totally agree. The only 1 of them that can sing is that 16 year old guy, and the dark chick with the awesome voice (can you tell I don;t watch the crap? I don;t even begin to know names!) Surely after this series it'll be old and done for?

Now if they could only cancel Big Brother while they are at it......

I reckon these talent shows are just no longer that talented anymore because the overall available talent is exhausted on the previous shows. The first Idol was pretty good, people can actually sing back then.

Don't even get my started on Big Brother... that is the worst show ever... I remember when I turned on the TV after midnight and they had the Big Brother show on with people just sleeping.

That's not true, there are heaps of good singers in there, who bring different things to the table.

I don't know about the musical background of any of you guys here on the board, but it's really easy to criticise musicans when you aren't one.

I am, and I know how difficult things are, how much practice and experience it takes, and while a few on the show are duds, more than that amount are definately great musicians who need a bit of help to become great performers and crack it into the industry.

They have mostly been flat and off tune. That 16 year old chick can sing, but has no flair or personality.
I may not be a musician, but I am a choir boy and proud of it

And being ditsy only gets you so far before you have to actually hold a tune as well. I actually question if anyone of them actually read the lyrics to what they sang either as they failed to understand what they were singing about.

It felt horrible waiting for the next after next contestant to sing coz the last one didnt impress and I guess I expected too much. Then the last one performed and I am not sure what happened to these judges. Im sure they could have picked better ones. Not a single one can perform properly on Rock Night! Thats just a complete waste of time!

Dump Australian Idol: After all these years I think that we've found all of Australia's decent singers (especially when the winner last year was Irish)
Dump big brother: what a load of crap
Keep Biggest Loser: It's the only three months of the year where I get motivated enough to do something about the extra weight.
Kill off all dancing shows: I'm sick of seeing all the celebs that can dance better than me.

We have many great talented musicians in this country, many of whom have worked their way up from empty venues, through to playing on an international stage.

Many people, if not a majority of people not associated with Idol within the music industry don't like Idol it because it makes a mockery of the hard work real singers/bands put in to struggle to make it themselves. I've seen people try and make it, and its very very tough to do.

Are there talented singers on Idol? Yes of course.....but there are also a lot of other taletened musicians out there who are just as good.

There are a few factors that I think people should realise about this show.

1) It's not about the singers or the talent, its about the advertisers, and the revenue coming in from the show. The amount of money Ten rakes in from people watching, voting, the money the advertisers paying for advertising air time is what helps keep it on TV, which is why its still on air.....people still watch it.

Lots of those people watching it are younger people with access to a mobile (great for voting), and are ripe for the picking in terms of advertisers targeting the young audience to buy their products. Next time you watch it, check out the products being advertised and who they are being targeted at.

2) Anyone who wins Idol scores a record contract......great you say, but that record contract is something that has to be paid back to the record company by the artist.

Most albums sold in Australia, the artist gets about $1-$2 per album sold. The rest goes on costs and paying back the record company and thats if they have written most of the songs themselves. The real money is in touring and merchandise. The Waifs (an Australian band) made close to a million dollars just on merchandise when they toured with Bob Dylan around America.

I'd really hate to see how much Casey Donovan owes to her record company!

If the show was about developing real talent, get the singers to write their own songs...now that would be interesting.

The problem for Idol winners is that a majority of them are great singing cover songs, but when it gets to singing their own songs they generally fall short and dont have the musical skills or talent to keep going.

Idol could be good, it would be great if it were great singers/musicians singing their own original material......if it were in this format, I would watch it.....but while it continues being a glorified karioke contest.....ill pass.

And then supernova and Toby Rand who has done the hard yards bucks the trend and then still fails but Shannon Noll makes it big???

yeah australian idol is a joke....i mean god.....2 winners of the show..that Casey chick (you know that big teen girl) and that blonde chick Kate that have both actually WON the show, have done jack sh*t since then......i mean whats the point? the person that comes 4th or 5th end up doing better...

bottom line is there are TOO many australian idol singers now with cds and record deals..its wrong........

Kate DeAraugo only won it coz her daddy bought all his employees and their friends mobiles to vote for her...He owns a Toyota dealership here in Bendigo

So how many of y'all will actually watch a show, when flicking thru the channels???

Come on now, be honest....

I watch it, but I enjoy the tongue lashings from some of the judges (yes Marsha, you're really out their judging ) more than the actual singing
