Is it just me... or every year at christmas does post gets worse and worse?

I have had about five transactions through here were there was a really long wait for parcels... I got some signed cards that took 3 weeks to arrive from NSW... I usually wouldn't complain.. And truth is.. It doesn't bother me much if they are parcels I am waiting on..... Only if it's something I shipped to someone... I feel bad that it takes so long... But what option do you have?

I sent two parcels mon 16th. Australia post told me they weren't shipped until 21st "so be patient"..... I wasn't even home on the 21st.. I went back to work on the 17th.. Is that ridiculous or what?

I'm annoyed. lol. End of rant.

Just for perspective...
there has been an approximate 18% increase in online buying generally in the last twelve months, and that always worsens at Christmas.
my housemate works as a sub contractor to Aus Post doing parcel deliveries and he has worked every day for the last seven weeks prior to Christmas this year. A lot of these days start at 2.30 in the morning and finish at 5.00 pm or later. Last year it was only the last six weeks...
I imagine that this will only worsen as online buying increases.
Admittedly, this is for parcels and not letters or smaller parcels that regular posties deliver Monday to Friday only.
I hear the argument for putting on temp personnel at this time of year, but the process for clearance from Aus Post is fairly comprehensive and time heavy and then there is the requirement to have a white van that is less that five years old. Add to that the need to know the delivery area to efficiently make deliveries and I at least think you would be hard pressed to find many casual parcel deliverers that would fit the bill.

Whilst the wait times and delivery times are poor you can't fault some of the people. At the Browns Plains business centre they know me by name and they are always willing to help. The mailman who does my area stopped at the house on his last work day, knocked on the door, gave me my mail and an Xmas present......I then gave him his. It is people like this that make the company and I wish there were more of them.

I've dealt with some really good people with austpost... Don't get me wrong... I think I'm just annoyed as I have two outstanding transactions (one through here, one privately) both totally over $1k. If they were $100 each it wouldn't bother me so much..... Being on the other end of the emails makes me feel like it's my fault.

My local postoffice is awesome. They hold my mail for me. Let my mother pick it up for me. Because I work away alot..... I could never fault them.

Well idiots stated dlvd on my express parcel after 12 days on a next day service and I didn't get anything and $1000+ worth of cards in there its pretty annoying!

They're dead set kidding!!
Everything / everyone / every business is busier at Christmas - Or sometime of the year!!
You know what we do???
MAKE ADJUSTMENTS FOR IT!!

Every day buisness should not take 3-4 times longer depending on the time of year...
It just shouldn't!!

I had a (Very high end) parcel posted to me from QLD on the 18th, I have today received a card to pick it up after 4pm on the 7th.... That's 20 full days in transit!!

I could near walk to QLD in 20 days.... They're a joke!!

I agree. We staff accordinging..... It's part of providing a business.

I'm sure it's a lot harder to accordingly staff such a large business and keep these potential Christmas employees interested for 3-4 weeks of work a year, it's not like they have this second potential workforce just waiting around to deliver parcels. This time of the year you just have to be a bit more patient with Auspost than normal. I try not to buy too much just before Christmas to avoid disappointment. This year I even told a bloke in Hawaii to hold off on posting until after Christmas, he posted Christmas Day and I got the card yesterday. Nott too bad a turnaround once the rush died down.
