hi guys as i approach a massive milestone (in my eyes) in my fleer platinum nameplates set , i was just wondering when and at what stage do you think an collector has the right to call them self a supercollector? would love to no your thoughts thanks kristan

Hmm, tough one. Though I wouldn't say that I'm a super collector of Kevin Garnett, there are some who would say that having over 1000 individual cards of his rates me as a supercollector. It all depends on your collection and how far you go with it.

total nmber of cards is a fair point but theres also got to be quality and so called super collectors dont just amass cards they go out of their way and do what they can to aquire them

i dont think 500 would be as epic as 1000 but its one massif effort

about 500 patches from the same set?

yeah to me thats pretty epic but where does that set stand in the hobby me and u love em but that set wasnt ground breaking and its not highly colleceted or sought after HOWEVER a lot of guys like that set 500 to me puts u in the ballpark of nenjabin...straight out nuts!!

Quality over quantity in my view having a lot of cards makes you a collector but chasing down those elusive rare beasties to add to the collection edges you more into SC territory I would say Slobby is a Pippen SC for the effort and $ he has put in to get his collection to the stage it as at.

So to be a super collector you have to have the funds to chase the hard to get rarities? What about folks like me, that just do their best to get everything they can.... I mean I have probably 4000 or so Wolves cards now, nigh on 500 relic cards, close to 300 autos, all done mostly on a limited budget (as for some reason when I am employed I grab a few cards but then gravitate towards other hobbies) - I do have 13 1/1s and what might be a 14th... I would say my collection has some serious quality, but maybe not as much as those that have more to spend :) I would consider myself a T wolves super collector.

like i said before super collector term means nothing if u consider urself that so be it no one here can judge u i sure as hell dont. its not just quantity u can have 3000 cards but how much of that do ppl wanna see and u can go into a shop and come out with 20 different wolves cards great for ur additions but by no means super. and yes spending beyond ur means MUST be a factor im not rich...i go without i dont drink i dont smoke i dont buy many clothes i go without to get what i get...hell verse1 was eatng 2 minutes noodles for weeks to get some of his stuff

the term means nothing people throw it out there to make others feel good

go and compare ur collections to other so called super collectors and see the difference even if its not doesnt make u any less of a collector all decent collectors see cards on other pcs that they think are epic

500 patches from.the set is epic a stupid term shouldnt take a way from the feat but if u want a title then there are criertia that others see as super grand total is just one of them

You can only be a super collector if you have enough Jersey cards of a single player to be able to remove the material, sew them all together and make yourself a cape!

Also, a pair of undies on the outside of your pants, made entirely out of peeled off sticker autos from the same player!

I would say I have enough Blairs to justify being called a 'Supercollector', but lets face it.... there is nothing 'super' about collecting Blair! ;)

hmmm well when my collection was not as big as now, I received recognition from a minnesota journalist who found my website he even interviewed me about my collection... think it helped I am Tasmania almost as far away form Minnesota as you can get lol what about press interest? lol

Alas he was freelance and while he loved the idea he couldnt get someone to bite on it... but hey I thought that was kinda cool... I might shoot him a facebook message tell him about my collection and that of Nina's he could probably turn that into a decent article now that Wolves are doing alright lol Two women collectors, one in Europe and one in Australia, with probably the two largest Wolves collections in the world lol
