Approximate value for sets?

Hi guys. I have been able to get my hands on a complete set of 1977 and 1980 Scanlens cards. Both sets are fully complete with all checklists. All cards are excellent condition, sharp corners, no creases, rips, tears or pen marks whatsoever. What do you think their value is.I paid $280 per set. I didn't buy them to onsell but I will feel a lot better about the outlay if I got a reasonable deal lol. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I liked the look of the 1980 set and I bought the 77 set because I've never seen any stuff from when Canterbury were called The Berries lol.

That seller asks stupid prices for EVERY card. Condition does not come into it.

I'd estimate $4-600 for the 77 set and $3-400 for the 80 set in the condition you've described.

Thanks for all your feedback guys. Yeah, I thought they were fairly priced as I've seen similar sets even without checklists sell for more than I paid but I wasn't sure because I'm a bit of a novice at this so I thought I'd ask the experts

Yep good buy.

Selling the MINT condition 77 checklists would almost get your money back alone on that set at about $20 each.

The 1980 set did it come with the two late print strip of 3 cards #176 onwards?

Without them I would say you paid about what it would take to put this set together, like Mike said around $300

Yeah mate, the 1980 set came with all the later add on cards. The checklists have them as higher numbers than all the other players in the same team but I have all of the extra ones with the higher card numbers.

Are they in a strip or have they been cut into singles? They are worth a fair bit more if still in a strip.

Unfortunately they are in single cards. However I did buy a full set of uncut cards on ebay a while ago from a guy in Melbourne who thought they were a poster. I forget which year the set is but it's not any highly sought after one. Update: just went through my ebay history, they are a full set of year 2000 common cards.

I believe that the 77 and 78 are the hardest to find in mint condition because of the colour border. These are way under estimated by collectors to find in near mint condition. If you where to find and buy these separately it would cost you dearly for each card with an expensive postage cost. Say on average each card cost you $6 [ and $6 is very cheap] for a near mint one $792 plus say $2 for postage x100. They would cost $1000 for each set. The value of these sets are well under estimated by collectors.
Nathan you got a bargain I would say if they are in that sort of condition.

Exactly as Moz writes if you sell a 77 set you are more likely to get a higher return selling the cards individually rather than as a set, it's sad but true.

The 1977 set is one of my favorites I have been putting one together as a side project to keep me interested in collecting every since I went to team collecting over master set collecting. I have a complete set but having been chipping away for years upgrading the odd card here and there. MINT cards aren't that easy to find and when they do come up the tend to go for more than I'm willing to pay individually.

My problem is that I only collect sets that I personally like so I can never actually bring myself to sell them lol. Nevertheless I still like to know that I haven't been ripped off when I initially purchase them.

The best way to collect for yourself is to buy nr/mint to mint. If you can afford it. This is what I did and have some of the best around. It is costly to buy both individually and full sets in the best condition.

I try to compromise between cost and quality lol. While I don't always go for mint I do draw the line at creases, tears or any pen markings etc. I go for at least good to very good. Mint is always a bonus if it falls within my budget at the time
