anybody been to Kangaroo Island?

hey mates,
a buddy and i are going to South Australia for holiday in March. we are planning to spend a couple of days driving around Kangaroo Island. would appreciate any recommendations on where to go and what to do there.

took my kids there a few years ago. Meant to be a great fishing/surfing spot, not too sure where though

Stokes Bay - a bit of a drive on dirt road and walk through the rocks but its surprisingly stunning at the end.
Vivionne Bay - scenic
Seal Bay, walk down the massive boardwalk and walk amongst the seals
Kingscote - do a guided penguin walk
Remarkable rocks, windy as hell, but good, walk down to ocean level
Cape Willoughby - also as windy as hell but walk to the top of the lighthouse

the roads are narrow, vegetation close crossing through the middle, also fill up when you can, not many servos

Beautiful place to go. There's a limestone cave system half way between kingscote and the national park - can't remember the name of it. Specutacular caves though - leaves Jenolan Cave's for dead and comes a pretty close second to Wombeyan caves. The national park is great for camping - just so long as you keep the 'roo's out of the tents and you don't mind sharing leftovers with the brush tail possums!!!

Yep, absolutely beautiful place to visit. You're spending a couple of days there, so while there isn't much in the way of "big city" shopping/fast-food/etc, its definately worth a visit! As has been mentioned, Seal Bay and Remarkable rocks have some great photo opportunities, as does Admiral's Arch/Cape De Couedic in the far south-western corner of the island, past Seal Bay. Stokes Bay is a nice place to swim, and if you've got any little ones in tow, has a nice rock pool there too. The cave system someone mentioned earlier I can vouch for too. Kelly Hill Caves, I think its called. Also Cliffords Honey Farm is worth stopping by to try the honey ice-cream they make. Finally, if you base yourself at Kingscote or Penneshaw, the 2 main towns, it's not hard at all to come accross Fairy Penguins nesting in the rocks along the beach on/just after sunset... Well worth the trip, I'd say!

thanks so much for the suggestions mates!
i've been told there's no street lights at night. what should i be mindful of when driving there? i reckon the occasional jaywalking 'roo or wombat might be a concern

Definitely have to watch for roo's, wombats, wallabys, koala's, possums.... elusive platypi....
