To cut a long story short, I was drinking over a mates place this arvo, and heard 2 fellas getting into a bit of banter about rugby league, and it came out that 1 of them had actually played for Wests (supposedly), back in I'd GUESS the 80's, similar time-frame to Benny Elias. His name (as far as I know) is Gary Howell. Anyone know anything about him as a player, and if he may have any cards made of him? Apparently he played in the halves, and full-back at a stretch... Just thought it was an interesting find, and if there actually WAS a card of him released, wouldn't mind tracking 1 down and getting him signed...

Anyone know of a Howell who played for Wests Magpies in that era? For all I know, "Gary" might just be a name he uses...

Ok, so he WAS a legitimate player at NRL level, at least for a while? Thanks for the confirmation, Corey...

Yes he did play at the NSWRL level just not for the Magpies, card number 99 for the Panthers in the Scanlens set from 1987.

There was a Gary Howell that played with Paul Taylor in the Ashcroft High side that went on to win the 1977 Amco Shield.
After that i think he went into the Eels lower grades.

I think every graded player in 1981 had a Ardmona card!.
Back then they graded 55 players for the 3 grades!.

Ah, ok. Right colours, wrong team... ;p haha! Actually, seems like wrong colours as well for that time period! Thanks for the extra info...

And thanks for the photos and info on the 2 cards he features on. Just out of curiousity, how hard do you think these cards (or 1 OF them), would be to pick up, and how pricey are singles from this set? I see theres 1 of the Eels Ardmona card on ebay at the moment for around 20 bucks. Is this some kind of "sought-after" set that I will just have to bite the bullet on? Or is that price a fair bit over market value? I've got bugger-all idea with the old sets...
