Top Prospects same but i dont think anyone is complaining about those cards unless maybe one of the players didnt play many games etc but at the end of the day you want a signature from every club right.
i would love to see panini or upper deck or topps take over afl cards just seeing what they do with NBA and NFL cards is amazing and could just imagine the cards from AFL legend autos patches it would be insane
I could be wrong here.
2011 Champions..... they add signature cards people still not happy ?
2011 strike ...... they include club player of year and team of the year that we missed last year people still not happy ? Fair enough same old club player and team of the year. Top Prospects same but i dont think anyone is complaining about those cards unless maybe one of the players didnt play many games etc but at the end of the day you want a signature from every club right.
2011 Select start making cards in china first set bit dodgy this was always going to happen. Second set strike and quality is great. Fair enough both sets there was few common cards not right the odd insert here and there but ever card they will replace for you ! I'm thinking next year things are looking great for select. Get it right in china and we could be looking at some awsome cards next year.
As for the staff at select. Even thow at times they have left me angry you have to look at it like this. Imagine you get piles and piles of emails letter's phone calls EVERY day with angry people mostly people acting and be stupid. Would you get upset ? Fair enough somethings they have said is crazy but is a NICE phone call email to hard ? I've been to select many many times and there phone doesnt stop calling with people trying to scam them or going of over nothing like really do you have to get upset over few common cards ? I could go on all day about thousand different things i just think we are being to hard on them.
P.S lol do you really have to get on there facebook page going of when a kind email or call will get you what your after most of the time ?

How can you have shaker fries without an El Maco? I was very disappointed when i saw it was a McFeast. El Maco and McRib are the best special burgers of all time
I am gonna load up on those shaker fries sachets before they disappear for another 5 years
I personally doubt that they negotiate with every single player to produce a card of them, with different rates, etc. This would be covered in the licence fee to the NRL, the NRL has the rights due to the collective agreement that every player signs. If Select agreed to terms with every single player on a fee there would never be a single set produced!
The big tobacco companies are reviled in public by the majority of people, their name is also mud, but they happily continue to make the same products and churn out their multi-million dollar profits. Just because you're not viewed in the best light by certain parts of the market doesnt mean you're not successful at what you're doing. You're taking a very narrow minded view on business, I think if the product is rubbish and there are heaps of complaints each year and dissatisfied customers, then they are not a successful company. Just look around here to see Select's name is mud, is that how you would like your company to be perceived?
I dont think anyone can really complain about the customer service from select. they have always been extremely helpful and prompt responding to my emails and fixing any issues.
I dont think everyone has had the same positive experiences with them as you. I have had more negatives than positives. Maybe you cant complain but i definately can.
P.S Owen if it wasnt for your hamburger theory.......El Maco, That is all
Being a person who started getting right into the whole 'footy card' things as a 9 year old kid in 1994, going hardcore for 2 years then stopping in 1996, then basically ignoring the whole scene until this year, i have an idea or 2.
Subsets-
Have a look at something like Series 2 of 1994, subsets galore, "Dynamic Dream Team", "Meninga Tribute set", "Best of the Blues", "Mighty Maroons", "State of Origin superstars", "Ten Year Tributes", "Try Machine"....
1995 Series 2 set... "Hot Prospects", "100 Years of League", "Speedsters", "Dynamic Double Plays", "Frontline Enforcer", "Origin Men of Steel" etc etc....
I think this is the kind of thing Select need to be doing.
Subsets that dont have to be expensive gold embossed "4 or less per box" things.... just simple themed subsets with cool visual art, inserted at 1 every few packs or whatever.
Give the kids some interesting sets to aim at completing.
Think outside the "Club Player" and Team Player" rut this company seem to be in.
IMO the Dynamic footy cards of the mid 90's did it perfectly, Select could learn a thing or 2 by looking back at these releases.
ALSO... do what Dynamic did in the mid 90's and release a 9 card set of the previous Premiership winners, with one side of the card being a highlight of the finals series, and the reverse side of the card being part of the big photo of the team with the Premiership trophy... all 9 cards put together make one big photo.
Its not that hard!
maybe there arent that many complaints each year? as someone mentioned, the target is kids/for kids and id say they are the majority of buyers (who i highly doubt care anough to complain), leaving a small section of disgruntled hard-core collectors. complaints from a minority is just a part of business...
Hardcore collectors account for about the same amount spent as lets say 30 kids. So 1 complaint from a hard core collector = 30 complaints from kids who don't really give a crap about looking after the cards and don't know what they are looking at in terms of imperfections in cards straight from a pack.
Exactly and the hardcore are here to stay, kids come and go.
I also think they should look at the present (around the world) and not to the past. 90s were my least favourite decade for cards.
How do they focus on new releases exactly? They could release a checklist for the next 5 years its that predictable.
