Hi guys, atm i'm about to send a pretty expensive package to Taiwan. I checked on the ozpost website and the only tracking they offer is with express international courier which is like $38.50 which to me seems pretty outragious. Am i better to do that or just send normal air mail with sig required and with insurance? Package will contain roughly $400us worth.
Is the person you dealing with trustworthy? is he from ebay? on the forum? most people are not out to get you, so I think you can just send with an international registered post. It costs around $10 and will make sure that the person gets it because it requires a signature. PayPal might not accept that as proper tracking but most people wouldn't know how PayPal works, so this would already discourage them from making a claim if they are really out to rip you off.
I think international registered is only a set amount covered ($100) so if you want full cover it needs to be the express option. If you're unsure of the buyer its not worth the risk ask him to cover the postage if he wants it or you could go halves on postage.

The person involved is from another Forum and has good feedback and i have had a couple of people lmk he's a great guy and always deals in high end cards. My problem isnt really with the guy i'm dealing with but the last 2 packages i've sent to asia have gone missing and have ended up costing me big time.
With registered post, there is no excuse from the other side that they never got it. If they didn't, someone will cop the blame, that is, the postal service. So I agree that the only problem is insurance. Just on a side note, I recently received mail from China registered and I saw the stamp they used, only 13 RMB = AUD$2. Now I don't understand how they can do it for $2 internationally but our cheapest postage to send overseas is already $2.20. Australia Post is such a ripoff!!
Registered is signature on receipt, but there is no guarantee the postal service will just drop it off in their letterbox. Problem with registered is that it is not tracked.
They say it is traceable which is very different.
What happens is they do not keep online records of it. Which I think is silly in this day and age since everything has a barcode, and all they need to do is scan it and it will automatically be on the system for anyone to look up. But anyway, if it gets lost, you basically only have proff you sent the item. If you want to find out what happened to it if it "did not arrive", then you need to lodge a form with Aust post, they need to try trace where it has gone. The person on the other end will be asked to sign a stat dec (or equivalent) saying they did not receive it. And if it insured then, only after all this process has occured, will they pay anything back.
With Express courier (ICE), at least it is tracked and you know it got to where it was supposed to go.
If you do not trust the buyer, go with ICE.
It costs so much because it is sent as a "parcel" and the minimum weight of a parcel is anything up to 2kg! so if you send one card or 2kg worth of cards, it costs the same. Send a small brick with it weighing 1kg, and it will still cost the same!
