The first card is what his autograph looks like, don't know if its legit but looks
similar to the one he signs now days, the bottom one looks like someone just
went ("AS" that will do, someone will buy it) lol.

I think are all legit actually. I bought the last one off ebay but i have got a card back direct from Symonds just signed A.S. I don't think he is arrogant enough to have someone ghost his auto. Or is he.

I have seen him sign the 'AS' for adults in person and the full sig for children.....

he is aware of the value of his signature

yeh usually when players become "greats of the game" or close to it, you see a variation within their sigs.
One cricket player i know is Gilchrist, have seen his full version and small version, but most of the time he signs full though which is what i got from an ip, but have seen smaller ones on ebay etc which are legit.
Other sports - Chris Judd, Ben Cousins all players who have an official sig and a ip sig that got shortened once they became stars!

Great thread Compo.

I have included some images from my collection complete with timeline of when/how signatures were obtained.

It is fair to say that a FULL Andrew Symonds signture is now very hard to source. I would also like to add that on the bay, his "full" signature in cricket is highly forged as well.... buyer beware !!

Australian Cricketers since the early 2000's, have been instructed by Cricket Australia not to sign there full signature so that is why you see an increasing amount of shortended versions like the Symonds one... I also put this down to how many requests the players would get !!

Enjoy !!

Given he is not even close to being a great of the game he should still only have the one signature!!

Nathan Buckley is another who now only signs NCBuckley most of the time.

I can't say I disagree with it really - if it makes the official limited edition sigs worth more then so be it.

that's true, he only does 'AS' in person and his full signature in private. i had assumed he only did his full auto when he was getting paid to do it. i personally obtained an auto from him on two cards with the standard 'AS', however when he signed the book he was releasing it was a full auto (in person). local memorabilia shop told me that sports stars will do a short auto for fans and a full auto for paid sittings. this is across the board from AFL, NRL, Cricket etc. Guess money talks!

yeh must be hard to do a long one all the time, my one is quite long and if i had to do that heaps than i would use my short one

Reeks of pure arrogance to me... To just sign AS, what a waste of time!

Ponting has changed his from the early days, but at least he has the decency to still do a "full" signature

Considering you can get the Symonds Ikon limited of 300 series card for $25-$30, doesn't say much for the AS signed cards...
