An idea to encourage/reward new members

Hey guys

After reading through the Panini comp thread I noticed how much of an impact that some members have on newbies by sending them cards for free. It seems to reignite their collecting passion.

I've also been asked in the past about members donating cards to the site that they no longer want/need.

If members are still keen to donate cards, perhaps we should have a pool of donated cards that we send away to new members who reach a milestone on the site (10 feedback, 200 posts, whatever)

It doesn't have to be something that is advertised to people, but could just be a way of using cards that people don't want and putting them to good use by sharing them.

I know it happens regardless (just look at the good deeds thread) but it was something I was thinking of and now opening it to you guys for further ideas.

Not a bad idea..... help newbies and empty the cupboard of base...

I am willing to donate about 5000 base cards! pretty sure there is full sets in there. LOL

i got heaps of unwanteds that were about to meet the bin would be happy to see them go to a better place

Good initiative graham but me thinks that you might be biting more than you can chew once several thousand of unwanted cards are sent your way for sorting.
Maybe a "do a good deed" section for members to sign up voluntarily would make things less cumbersome for admin.
Members who sign up will be PM'ed once new members have reached 500 posts (for eg) and admin can PM them address details?
