Ok so I'm a little over people asking ridiculous prices on cards, I don't mind paying decent money for cards but is it just me or has it gone too far? Personally my collection has stalled because sellers are just asking way too much. Like to hear opinions.

I agree on the whole 'asking too much' thing. Hows this for an example!

I found this card:

I asked the fella for a price, and he said $180 OBO..... ?? WTF ?? Fair enough, it is numbered /5. But $180???

I just bought this one off eBay:

For $41....

Now, tell me which one is a nicer card??

Limited is a higher end release, and it is from his RC year.

That is an example of over pricing!!

In saying that, I have on many occasions, discounted a card for someone because 'it is their PC player' and they can't afford more. Yet later I see the card in there sale thread for more than I sold it to them????

So I am less inclined to help people out with pricing now and just price it how I see it!!

i'm in exactly the same boat now, have a few dwight exquisite cards now but the ones that i know of that are out there are held by complete idiots. They know i want them so want 2-3 times their value. I have just walked away now, i know eventually i'll find them elsewhere but its very frustrating.

Many people always say be patient.... zzzzzzzzzzzz haha good luck!

haha I too have considered selling my my MJs. I can't even get decent fleer ones (as I also collect fleer sets) because they gone through the roof. I haven't decided yet. I may buy a few at reasonable prices if people offer them to me on here. But at the same time I would like to own a property (be in debt to the bank lol) sometime in the near future rather than pay rent for someone elses property. It isn't exactly cheap in Melbourne.

Also look at the new 2011-12 Fleer retro product. Someone preordered most the cases (now all sold out) from dacardworld because they want PMGs. This makes it hard for genuine fleer collectors like myself to collect the whole set. I remember the good old days people use to bag me out for owning fleer cause it was the cheapest product yet now everyone wants it.

i know people overprice cards if they are selling to a player collector..
i had a deal for $300. which was overpriced, so i counter offered with $250 (which was still overpriced)

he says that too less.
he then sells the card the next week for $215

WTF ?!

arrrgh

Exactly what I'm talking about. So many people are just in this gig for the wrong reasons!! The more I read the more I think it's time to go.

Some people are "in" the hobby purely as investors - they like to scrounge true collectors to death. I had issues with these types over at beckett about 4 years ago now - they would openly criticise people for busting lower end stuff and would denegrate someone for getting excited about getting a ten buck card of their favourite player that they'd been chasing. When I'd had enough of this (they were tearing the crap out of a new, younger collector) I had enough and big brothered them - told them right where to go and that no-one cared for their arrogant attitude or their money. They shut up after that and when the site went to beta, they all disappeared. I so hate people who collect purely to turn a quick buck - they are a scourge on the hobby.

Keep in mind, the idea of collecting is not only about having the biggest, baddest cards you can get!!

For me, it is about putting sets together, to be proud of them.

Yes, I am a player collector - Blair - but I will (and have on many occasions) turned away from buying a Blair so I can buy a card for one of my sets instead.

If you collect a player, you will probably never own every card of that person. Look at Jared, probably THE BEST single player PC I have ever seen, but even with him, he has to say "collecting everything except 1/1". Obviously that is justified because of the rarity, but at the end of the day, you probably won't ever feel like you have completed anything.

I have recently purchased the last 3D star insert from 09/10 Upper Deck, which is the first full set I started chasing. The card is incoming and once it is here, I will be ecstatic because I have waited over 2.5 years to finish that set and have now completed it!!!

I don't think I have ever been that excited about a Blair I have pick up!

Long ramble, I know... but my point is that there are other ways to have fun in this hobby. Ways in which it doesn't matter to you when people want to over price or try to rip people off.

A card is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. No magazine or auction site is gospel.

There are two sides to the coin. It is all supply and demand.

For my case (and everyone else), I spend time and $$ trying to amass my collection and so will sell if need to or the price is right. If you are not happy about the price, it’s fine. I will let card ride on eBay (either Auction or BIN) or keep the card. No one is obligated to give a big discount just because of forum membership. Selling on eBay just gets a bigger coverage of audience.

i buy in bulk as everyone knows, then increase the prices slightly and sell cards indervidually to make a profit, which then allows me to afford pc collection cards. This is my hobby and i also have a morgage to the bank. You can have the best of both worlds. If cards are over priced then don't buy then, we never hear of anyone saying cards are underpriced......

I am sort of the opposite end here. I like to buy any rare cards I can find
And would normally put in a reasonable offer to buy the card. But in many instances, I get "outbidded" by someone else. I hate to say it but there is a lot of crazy nuts offering big money for cards, and some of them are residing here. They pay for the card then whinge later saying that they overpaid for the card. My question then to this crazy nuts is why in the world did you make such an offer in the first place!!!!
