Just want some opinions on what people think I should do here. I bought a Stargate DVD box set on e-bay Oz about a week ago, and it arrived yesterday, no problem there. But then when I open the packaging, the first thing I notice on the front cover is Chinese writing under everything written, then when I turn it over, the episode list is the same as LAST season. Starting to get worried, so I open it up and find the DVDs in a CD wallet which has been sticky-taped into the case. It still has the usual identifying stuff on the top of each DVD, so I think maybe its just a Chinese official release and this is why it sold a bit cheaper. But then when I stick the first one in, theres no features or other options, it just goes straight into it. Then as I'm watching, I notice the Sci-Fi channel logo in the bottom right corner, and some other stuff that just pops up intermittantly to do with a website. So by the looks of things, the guy's downloaded it off the net, printed covers for everything, and sold it as a box-set on e-bay. I mean, he can say he didn't mention it being an "official" box-set, but he sure as hell didn't mention it being a shonky copy either! And the part that annoys me is I paid $62 anyway, for what would be an $89 box set at K-mart (save $27, thats alright I spose), but also thinking how cheaply he probably put it together, along with how many other copies, and is probably making a killing on every set. Would you be annoyed in my position, or just happy to have saved the money on the official release?
Sorry, I just relized this is the card section, I meant to post in general. I just woke up, so a bit clumsy... Mods, feel free to move this if you want... Thanks.
Man...I must say I'd be annoyed. I'm not sure if there is anything you can do about it through ebay (maybe others have had a similar problem) but that just sucks. I'd say it is illegal to sell pirated goods on ebay, but I'm not sure about the policing of it. Maybe you can make a Paypal claim? Just checked the offending ebay item...."Official Australian Release" my arse! How can someone gain over 10000 feedback by selling this shit, dude must be a bazillionaire!
i'd ask for a refund and if he says noi would mention that you may have to inform ebay and the police (i did it to a dodgy box seller and got a refund quite quickly)
that is annoying... i think one cannot sell pirated material on eBay...
for me, k-mart/virgin mega store are the best place to buy DVDs.. they offer reasonable price, never had a problem operating and watching and many things to choose...
If you didn't use Paypal, there is also an option in eBay for disputes. Not sure about getting your money back (like you can do with paypal), but it's useful for disputes.
Did it say in the item location that it was from tassie? We bought a box set once, the said it was coming from tassie, it turned up with a customs sticker from China. We emailed and said we weren't happy, and would report them as the packaging was so dodgy. You could tell they were pirated. Anyway they offered us another box set of different movies, on top of the box set we already had, and free postage, and we took it. [-X (Sorry to all those film producers that missed out on honest cash). You should ask for a freebie.
You really need to act on this, as many have also stated. I reckon if you want box sets your best bet is always to wait for a K-Mart / Big-W / JB HiFi sale, as these places almost always have really nice savings on alot of the box sets (just need to be patient). And if you want to go the internet option, DO NOT USE ebay!!! Maybe from someone with a small feedback score, who sells theyir own propertie occasionally, not from one of these pirated goods sellers. Or even check out places like Borders / Amazon online, I've got a few box sets from Amazon cheap, quick and most importantly, the real deal.
email the seller first and tell him the goods differed from the auction, if paid by paypal you can just report the goods were different from the ones received, and just copy and pasted what you typed in thread #1

If you bought thru paypal, and it wasn't sent registered, just say it never showed up. DO NOT say it showed up and is faulty or pirated. You lose any chance of getting your money back once you do. You basically have to lie to get your money back.
