Ok so being a collector of D.C only I had very little experience (zero) with redemptions until about 3 years ago when Upper Deck produced By The Letter Signatures. I was crazy excited because the cards looked great and I was in desperate need of some fresh cards to chase. I chased them hard and went for every card that came available, paying good money along the way. To this day I am yet to have any of the 8 redemptions fulfilled. Upper Deck have told me to send them a list of players I collect and they will send me replacements of equal Beckett value. As I only collect Coleman and the Beckett book value is way less than what I paid I am staring down the barrel of a big loss. In a desperate attempt to try and get D.C to sign the cards I made contact with him via twitter. Initially he would respond to me, until I mentioned the cards he had outstanding with both Upper Deck and Panini. I was hopeful he would tell me that he had signed them. I really wanted to ask him why he hadn't signed the cards but he simply stopped replying to me.
I also have 6 other redemptions with Panini that range from 2 - 3 years ago. Despite several requests for updates I keep getting the same generic response "we are still waiting on the athlete to sign". How long should I wait? Should I now be asking for a replacement also? How does Panini work when it comes to replacements?
Anyway does anybody have any advice about what I should do to ensure that I get best value for money back on the redemptions, given I paid well above the current market price for cards I am never going to own?
I have had some good experiences with redemptions (aside from waiting forever) I had a Select Kyrie /25 outstanding and I asked for a replacement Kyrie and they sent a /25 Spectra so I think it was an upgrade. Other stuff has been nuffies and as soon as the window became available I asked for replacements from my Bulls and they have given me what I think are better cards. If your chasing DC, unless you have a 1/1 or really low numbered stunning card a replacement may work out alright, might be better than a white card in your box
If you have evidence of how much you paid for the cards, maybe you could write a case to UD and Panini, and they will redeem for a grester value. You woyld need to make contact with someone higher up that will take a personal interest in your situation though.
I have some Panini redemptions that would be heading close to year four of being open. I requested replacements about a year ago - my call was closed with the message they would be fulfilled in 4-6 weeks.
You'd think if Nene hasn't signed cards from 2011/12 Gold Standard by now it's safe for Panini to assume he never will At least none of mine are particularly high end - a Jimmy Butler Panini Limited Rookie Auto and Rashard Lewis Silo Patch would be the only two of decent value.
