@ A1, we love collecting as much as you do !
Hi all
I decided to post this up for a few reasons !
1st off, A huge thanks to Steve (HSV006) for letting my fellow traders know that I was out of action. Kelsey also says thanks because she had no idea what to do as far as posting a thread on OCT
2nd thing, Thanks for all the well wishes from some of the great characters I have met here on OCT over the years and some recently
Last but not least is my latest visit to hospital that is hopefully my last for some time
Tues last week I had what at the time was an overnight cold sweats flu (the one where you wake up in puddle of sweat and in need of a new pillow) not nice but short and sweet
Another day later and I started getting a sore neck and sore throat(sore necks are not unusual when you have young children so not too a big problem either at them time ) Anyway, I get onto the nurofen for swollen glans and some suff other stuff that did nothing and off to bed I go. Wake up thursday morning and realize that I am not breathing normally and someone has exchanged my voicebox with a cheap imported version. My throat is so sore and dry that I get glass of water to soothe what felt like a fire in my throat. Could not swallow more than a few mil of it and was not able to completely swallow. Now in a bit of a panic I have the torch out checking out my airway.
It was at least 40 % closed over from just 1 side and a golf ball size swelling on my neck
Off to My local hospital (no longer) they give me a script for some anti biotics after I kind of persist that surely its worst than a sore throat and it can't hurt . they tell me to come back if things get worst. I am back by 7pm blood test done that evening and transferred to Fremantle hospital at midnight due to some less than average observations by medical staff !
I end up seeing a specialist first thing in the morning and when he gives me a confused look I start getting more worried. Symptoms are getting worst. Breathing felt worst but my lack of physical strength could be the reason at the time all I could hope for was that they could work out what was wrong with me !
Can no longer swallow anything and even the act of swallowing causes my whole head to turn which was extremely painful at the time.
Never had so many bags being IV'd into me even after surgery a while back now. At this point I am just scared and very emotional (still shaken up thinking about it now)
By the next morning I was feeling less pain and wanted to see my children so I asked the doctor if anything was possible with regards to going home. All he said was "not on my advice and it would be highly possible that I would be back in by the morning and have a hole in my throat so I could breath" ..... I swear I stopped breathing before breaking down for the first time
Cat scan was done the next morning ! the verdict, all they can do is hope that the meds start to work ! My breathing starting to feel better but my neck was still fully swollen and airway half closed over, maybe i was just getting used to it.
It was another 48 hours later when things started to clear up (I wont go into detail but it was not a pleasant experience)
Got let out today at last I am so relieved right now that it all seems like a bit of a bad dream except for the coctail of medicine I am taking at the moment to remind me! Still not 100% sure what happened but will update as I hear more
The lesson I learnt was that it is never too early to go to the hospital to get things checked out !!! A day later and things could have been drastically worst so fingers crossed that this is all cleared up by the end of the month and that you all avoid the same thing happening to you !
Take care :v:
