hi guys,

Unfortunately a collectors nightmare has come true for me and in a recent package from SBF looks to have been opened in transit and a majority of the cards have gone missing. It doesn't appear deliberate however as some nice cards have turned up, included the highest valued, and some low valued cards are missing, so I think I can rule them out as being stolen.

I am going to work with SBF to work out which cards exactly made it into the package and have gone missing, and once done will give a comprehensive list as to whats missing. There is now of huge value, but I'm not a high end collector so it's a more a culmination of a bunch of lower valued cards being missing which is where I'm taking the hit. Some cards of note for me that missing are a clifford robinson immaculate premium patch /10, a Julius Randle select tye dye BGS 9.5, Andre Drummond spectra gold /10, Shawn Kemp select tye dye /25

Luckily no massive PC items are missing, but this is still unfortunate.

Like I mentioned, once I have more details I will post links to the items and let you guys know the serial numbers of the bigger cards so maybe you can keep and eye out for them if they pop up.

Now to the help portion, as I've never experienced this before, I am wondering what can I do with regards to check locally to see if the cards have turned up at a local sorting facility or something of the like? Am I in any position to make a claim?

Thanks for you help in advance :)

Where possible, if you know the serial numbers of the cards and or have photos ( from where you purchased ), save all this info.
Just in case they surface on ebay.
Sorry to hear about your loss sir, missing cardboard is a bitch :(

Sorry to hear KB - that really does suck a big one. IS there anything indicating who or where the package was opened? Customs? AusPost? Prior to arriving in Oz or whilst still in USA? Without the paypal protection or any tell tale indicators it's difficult to attribute blame - way too easy for each party to just point the finger at someone else. Hope the cards turn up for you mate - I'm sure most members will keep any eye out for them....

Wow man!! That would suck indeed.
I'm sure if they were legitimately lost they will most likely turn up on eBay I'd say,
Because whoever would find them there would be a big chance that they would know nothing about basketball and wouldn't have the knowledge to know that people would be on the hunt for these missing cards.

At this point I cant tell as the package has been opened on the side and then taped back shut. I am not holding too much hold I will locate, them but I was thinking the only real option would be for me to check locally, altho not sure whether to check the local post office, or possible the sorting facility, and maybe matt can ask his PO? Other than that I'm not really sure what avenues to try. I know there has been instances in the states where lost freight turns up at a depot where if unclaimed it's auctioned off, but again I would have no idea how/who to speak to about that.

People have had success at the local GPO before - even me! I fled a lost package claim and worked with the sender too much like you're doing. Just ask (more than one person) if they've seen any basketball cards lying around... If not maybe try a compensation claim - AusPost has to be at least partially responsible for delivering the final goods in that state.... One of the worst organisations and situations to deal with though, so good luck!

With lost mail they only try to look for registered, express, tracked parcels etc. And even then they run around like the Keystone Cops. It's a real circus. One of my parcels was tracked to the actual Post Office I was standing in and they couldn't find it after about 3 or 4 attempts, eventually all ended well though.

Not much to help - but at least it's something...

Thanks for that. I've shot of a query to Aus Post & USPS for more detail as a starting point. I guess if I can just find out at which point the package was damaged (it went through roughly 5 depots) I can atleast get in touch to see if there is a lost/found box and see if they have some of the items.

It was sent USPS priority mail so I'm hoping that will provide some coverage. It's not so much the monetary value as I'd rather just have the cards. I guess I'm also lucky cause I have a catalogue of the ebay items I won as well as photo's of the package before I opened it which can hopefully help my cause of getting my stuff back.

I'm sure Matt will be able to assist me in contacting the USPS depots in the states if necessary.

Sorry to hear about this Benn, that's really sh!tty. I hope they turn up some way, somehow.
Don't really know what else to say mate.
Good luck i suppose????
