There's a bit of a story behind this card - I hope u read it so u will understand HOW MUCH EFFORT it took to get it - if not just go to the bottom....by the way - it has NO auto, NO patch, NO jersey.....
A long long time ago in a hemisphere far far away - a guy pmed me - actually in January - nearly 7 mths now - outa the blue saying he had this card. I nearly jumped outa my chair - I'd loved the set since my old school LJ collecting days when I'd gotten every LJ parallel there was in the set. I had some KG cards from the same set (there are 9 different ones) and this guy
had the HARDEST one to find -
He lived in Norway - anyway I wrote back like the eager beaver I was - I knew I'd have to fork out some serious cabbage to land it - anyway after a week he writes back saying he'll trade the card for a list of cards he needed to complete some old school sets. He ignored requests to sell and was rather tough to nail down an offer with.
I tried to find them for a week or 2 - then asked if I could see a scan of the card and got no reply. Then he replied just asking for me to look for the cards. I kept trying and turned up nothing - I again asked for scans of the card and got no reply...... I was rather suspicious and in the end I flagged - deciding that A - I couldn't be stuffed and B - I wasn't sure he had it anyway...
6 months later I'm browsing beckett for #21/ cards - I see his id!! I pm'ed him and he said gidday!! I said I still hadn't found his cards (I hadn't kept looking to be honest!!) Could I buy?? He said no - he'd pulled the card himself and only wanted to trade it for cards he needed. He then gave me a list of 03-04 standout sigs autos that he needed - about 50!
I asked for a scan if his KG card again....BOOM he sends it to me and not only is it nice - its perfectly centred and in mint condition and an edgy, poorly centred set!! Bloody gorgeous!!!
I got on the job again and looking on beckett and HK found 6! I asked if I bought all 6 would he trade the card - he said ......"YES" - Thanks F%^& for that I thought!!
I then bought 2 off a guy on HK and my man LJBIGGESTFAN rounded up 4 on beckett from the US for me and I paid him a lump sum for the lot and postage. (Wolvey that big KG lot I sold u helped pay for these!)
(Bear with me!!) Eventually all six autos arrived and I emailed Norway - my man said 'Great!' I sent him a scan and he was fine to send simultaneously.
So last Thursday he sent them and bugger me!!!! The top of the North to the bottom of the south - doesn't get more worldly than that BUT ONLY 6 DAYS LATER from the other end of the world #50 is here!!!
This card is easily in my TOP 10 #21/ cards. Out of the 50, only 3 are from last century and they've all cost me a packet - I've only seen one other #21/ card from the 90's on ebay in my time and it was a hoops insert #21/100 and went for over $80!!
So I have finally reached #50 - it's taken me over 2 years of hard slog (about as long as it's taken to read this u poor bastards!!) - in the last year I have bought virtually NOTHING ELSE but #21/ cards - which has been tough at times but like a good student I've stayed on task!!
I'd like to thank ALL the guys who have pm'ed me auction links - u know who u are, ALL the guys who have bought my cards rather than traded with me - it's all gone towards this collection so a fair few of u have some ownership in this.
If there's enough interest I will create a thread with all 50 in order of arrival. It'd be a biggin but i'd only do it once!! I've had requests on HK to do that so thought I'd ask.
