Hey all, pretty quiet here in the breaks sections - isn't anyone buying at the moment ? I took the plunge on a box each of the latest products. Here's the eye candy !
First off Absolute. Not a terrible break, the Henne will go to my Dolphins fan mate and the Bradshaw is a pretty neat card, the top of the A from BrAdshaw.
Next up, Topps Legends. Have to say I really like these cards, they're neat and clean and the player selection is pretty awesome with past greats like Montana and Marino making an appearance. A nice PC hit for me with a Greg Salas Auto and to top it off the only parallel in the box was of Eric Dickerson, the guy that made me become a Rams fan in the first place ! I can see another box of this coming soon as it was pretty cheap too
Finally another box that was cheap when I bought it but has just hopped up $12 since last week and that's Topps Chrome. Chrome is always a good product and this year is no exception. Again a great PC hit in the only Auto in the box being an on card Austin Pettis of the Rams. Lots of Rookies and refractors etc in a box too. I pulled 8 standard refractors ,a blue, and a black as well as what I think is a crystal Xfractor. The rest of the box had about 8 inserts and the base cards were just about split with 38 or so base and 38 RC's. So good value if you want RC's. Probably be tempted to get another box of this soon too...
Pretty good prices, even slightly better if you can get what they call "premier pricing". Fast too, placed my order Thursday night, got the boxes Monday...
Nice to see you get some rams. That Bradshaw is nice , I would be happy with that one and I hate the Giants.
I was excited at the prospect of Topps Legends but it seems all breaks I have seen all the autos and GU are rookies though. I would have thought a product called legends would have more retired autos and GU.
Spot on Greencardy, there's a blurb on the box about the Autos and their levels etc, but not one veteran or past player mentioned, so I reckon they must be scarce! However the checklist does list 60 or so Legends and current player autos, so apparently there are some out there! Checklist is here - 2011 Topps Gridiron Legends Football Checklist
Thanks for the link ,the numbering for those legends relics and autos are way lower than the rookies. Definitely explains why I keep seeing rookies in breaks.
Looks like I will definitely take the gamble at some point.
You would have to want that Bradford/Warner dual auto for sure.
Yeah, I'm pretty lucky with my breaks...just don't think I'm THAT lucky though !!
A lot of those pairings and legends stars sounds like nice cards though and I've just about convinced myself to buy two more boxes tomorrow. One good thing is the boxes are pretty cheap considering you get a lot of cards...I got something like 72 base, 36 RC's a few other inserts and 16 thick card parallels...might all end up unmoveable fodder, but at $63 a box it's better than some other brands...
Went another box of the Gridiron Legends, probably not as good as the first and definitely not from a PV point of view. Very surprised to see Marshall Faulk not in the set at all - I've sent a tweet to Topps asking why!
Pretty sure I'm done with the product now. Full details of the break is on my Blog Passing Games Here's the hits -
Ausram, Good work on the blog I like it!
I think the reason Faulk isnt included in the Legends set is he was too exhausted from signing 150,000 cards for inserting
into the latest release NFL Madden 12.
There's a story and review of the card here: A Pack To Be Named Later: 2011 EA Madden 12 Hall of Fame Edition
I love this bit from his tweets:
The serious reason may be that he signed an exclusivity deal with Panini, who knows...
Yeah, I wondered about a Panini deal, but wouldn't have thought that'd stop them putting in even a non-auto base card as I think that would still be allowed by NFL properties/NFLPA. Unless Topps had a dummy spit or something. Who knows, all a bit odd though. Cool story on the Madden 12 though, that's a heck of a lot of sigs! Ouch!
Thanks on the blog, it's a bit of fun...got some ideas for some articles and stuff so stay tuned !
