Interesting list. There are obviously a few no-brainer names there and some others that will bear close watching.

I keep folders of all cards I have of Hall of Fame players and also come guys I think are close.

Bosh, Hardaway, Pierce, Wallace and Webber are all in the folders.

First time up for Bosh and Pierce who I both think will be no brainers (fight me on Bosh!).

I also think Webber and Wallace should be easily in as well.

Without burbling a lot of stats Webber not only put up Hall of Fame level numbers but made 5 All Star teams and more importantly 5 all NBA teams and was the key member of those Kings teams that were iconic.

And, well Wallace was a 4 x Defensive Player of the Year! (Plus 4 x All Star, 5 x all NBA, 6 x all defensive and again a key part of an iconic team that also won a title.

I think Hardaway is a lot more borderline and would not bother me if he was not in.

Another guy who I think should get more consideration is Toni Kukoc as much for his early European and international achievements and continuing the path for Euros to the NBA.

i think they HOF needs an overhaul. They need transparency on who votes and clarification on how you get in. They need to tighten it up so it's harder to get in, it seems not as elite as it should be.

I don't think Hardaway should get in, probably not Bosh but I'm open to be swayed.

I agree that the HOF could be more transparent and have a more structured voting system than is currently in place ie more akin to baseball.

It is a bit harder to define who gets in the Basketball HOF than for baseball because it is literally the basketball HOF not the NBA HOF so you do need to consider players college and/or international careers as well. There is a much wider group of players to be considered than in baseball where it is more “were you a great MLBer”.

I probably favour a wider version of the Hall than most as I like to think the Hall tells the history of basketball so I ask “could I tell the history of basketball and not include this person” if the answer is “yes” then leave them out.

In that vein here is why I would include Bosh. You can’t tell the history of basketball without that Miami team and you can’t explain that Miami team without including Bosh.

When he went there he as if not an elite player then an exceptionally good one both by advanced and box score statistics. He remained by stats a very good player despite taking an offensive back seat in those “Big 3” years. Though I think his biggest contribution in those years was his defence. Spoelstra would have him jump pick and rolls, blitz PGs out to near halfway and he was still able to recover to pick up guys in the paint. That aggressive blow up every pick and roll defence was so important to Miami and I don’t know if there was another guy in the league who could have done that.

By stats his case is average. However, he is still easily top 100 in pretty much every major advanced stat be they rate or aggregate based.

Obviously the other big downside is health ending his career prematurely. In this regard his closest contemporary would have to be Mourning and he is in the Hall. (Though Mourning did manage to resume his career albeit in a diminished capacity whereas Bosh did not).

Statistically they are very similar in advanced and box score stats. Zo has some more personally hardware in DPOTY awards and some block titles but Bosh out paces him 11-7 in All Star nods FWIW. Bosh also has 2 titles to Zo’s 1 and was a much bigger contributor to both. Zo did have the more illustrious college career.

Either way both are close and if Zo is in I feel Bosh should be though would not loose any sleep if he wasn’t.
