I would like to see three series of cards.
Please let's have some input into this just an idea.
Series one to come out in Jan,12 player In their team jersey for that year no inserts at all a simple basic set so it can be kepted under a $2.00 price range to sell everwhere before the season to start and allows Kids something to collect like the old days when you collected your player or team.
Series two to come out 6 to 8 weeks after the season started with player action shots from round one that way it keeps it in the right colours and jersey for that year and if a player is out injuired he has to wait until series 3 maybe 2 or 3 inserts,I have to admit I like the idea of the year before under 20's Toyota cup team of the year signature card at $4.00 a pack like this years series 1.
Series 3 to be a more upmarket cards and a couple of N.R.L first garder signature cards for example if someone scored a hat trick during the year do a signature card of them someone kicked 8 out of 8 goals in a game do the stats on that player for that game.
I know this set would be around $6 to $8dollars but the collector can look at it and go I like it or not bother.
The idea is to make series one so simple that the kids pick up on it and bring new people into sport and collecting.
This is only what I hope may happen its a dream but will anyone listen.
What are you thoughts on this.
I would love to see Series 1 as you said, 12 players per team, very basic and appeal to the younger and new collector. I would love Series 2 to come out and have 8 different players than Series 1. Instead of different borders have the same borders and design but make it an extension of Series 1 with alot more Rookies and players who have transfered in their new colours. Include new inserts in Series 2. Then Series 3 can be your top end collectable
Just some creativity with design and some new technology put into the higher end collections would be good. Instead of just repeating old ideas and old styles. Something out of the box, something completely different to what as hit the market recently. I like the idea of 3 series and don't mind the idea of a series one as a throwback to the Scanlens days. Some communication might also help !!
What about some variety in the base set as well? I seem to remember Upper Deck including cards pertaining to final series games the year before? That could even work as an insert set but I'm a base set kind of dude so I'm biased!
Also, what about cards dealing with famous rivalries? It could be between clubs, but also between individuals- we've already seen SBW / Burgess and Hodges / Matai this week.
Just in regards to the kids / adults sets (a la Champions then Dynasty)...in the AFL, why are all the Stars in the Champions set, then the 'adult' top notch later set is just nuffies on better cards?
