hi any idea if there are going to be any world cup cards released for the big event regards andrew
Hi mate,
Im sure ive heard that the WC is a seperate licence which is contracted with Topps I believe?
Cheers
Matt
The release appears to have an AFL Teamcoach feel about it, with 3 parallel sets (base, silver and gold).
Of course as to whether they will be different images across the 3 sets remains to be determined.
Looking at all the images released either on the sell sheet, or via the TnP twitter or facebook accounts, it looks as if each "team" will have a Strike Batsman, Strike Bowler and Super Stars card.
Images for the 'Australia -Test' team have David Warner (Strike Batsman), Mitchell Johnson (Strike Bowler) and Michael Clarke (Super Stars).
It also appears that having one of these special insert cards doesn't mean the player won't have a base card, e.g Brett Lee has a base card and a Super Stars card.
The only thing that goes against that theory is that Matt26 has previously indicated there are 11 cards in the Super Stars set, but there are 12 'teams' comprising this set.
An email from Neil (TnP) announcing this set stated
"Teams include - ALl BBL Players - International Test/ODI and T20 teams - Southern Stars - all full squads."
Of course just how that is to be achieved is unclear as each BBL squad has 18 players, so that alone would comprise 144 cards (out of 185 stated as comprising the base set). But of course not all players were signed up to teams before this set would have gone to print.
But I know from the TnP A-league/socceroos/matildas release to expect the unexpected.
Of course it would just be simpler for TnP to release a checklist prior to release, but again TnP issuing a checklist proved to be quite an effort for the A-league release even after the cards went on sale.
So, I guess we just go with the drip feed approach of image releases for now.
However, if you want to play along at home I have done up a document that lists all the players in the teams as I believe they are (others more wiser in such matters are welcome to argue the toss as to the accuracy of the details contained on the document).
All names are in grey text until they are confirmed. The names on the list that are in BOLD are those that have an image released to date.
You might even what to share your own thoughts as to what player will comprise the 185 base cards and the various strike/super stars cards.
Enjoy!
Hi Mike,
The checklist is planned to be released before the cards are available in newsagents estimated Jan 12th. I'll see if I can get this checklist from Neil soon.
From what I understand, you are correct in saying that all of the BBL teams and the Aussie Test/ODI/T20 and Southern Stars will all be part of these insert sets.
In relation to the Superstars only having 11 cards, unfortunately Phil Hughes was meant to be featured as the Superstars card for the Adeliade Strikers but due to his passing it was requested by Cricket Australia that this card and his other base card be removed from the release.
I'll see if I can get the checklist here soon.
Cheers
Matt
Thanks for this clarification Matt, particularly in relation to the impact that the passing of Phil Hughes has had on the set.
The estimated release date of 12 Jan is a lot later than I had thought.
A checklist would be great. Also some idea if the base, silver and gold cards are going to be the same images or different. I am guessing the same images.
Hi Mike,
I've heard that there will be stock in the country in late December (22/23rd?) however to get it into the cycle of releases into newsagents/retail outlets etc (given Christmas/NYE is in the way) has pushed it to Jan 12.
Some places may get earlier deliveries. A bit like the NRL where the release date is x and people have stock a week prior.
The Parallels will be the same image as the base card. I understand that the reason for this is the huge costs to use images from the licencing outlets.
I've heard in some cases (not just cricket) its not uncommon for someone to want to charge $1500 for the use of an image plus ongoing royalties (e.g. a percentage of sales)
Thanks again Matt.
The info about the costs associated with different images is amazing. Makes you wonder how AFL teamcoach can manage its 3 different images approach for the bulk of its release, plus images for the associated inserts, but maybe they have closer links with the AFL in that regard.

won't Jan 12 be a bit late for the Big bash as round 7 of 8 would be starting at that timeThanks for this clarification Matt, particularly in relation to the impact that the passing of Phil Hughes has had on the set.
