Any one of the top 3-4 picks will help Charlotte next season! Let's just hope for a couple of smart trades to compliment them!

You can throw out all the numbers and explanations you like, but for the NBA to be taken seriously they CANNOT hide this draw from everyone like this... while it all may be legit, when you do a 'random' draw behind closed doors and the team you just sold and vetoed a trade for previously ends up winning... it's obviously gonna make you look bad!

To be totally honest i reckon the Bobcats played much worse then they are capable of this season. Blatantly throwing games to get a top pick, they'll probably do the same again next season and get another top 4 pick as the Cavs did.

At the end of the day, you can either buy into the conspirancy theory or not. Personally, I don't. The fact that a worldwide accounting/auditing firm conducts the "lottery" itself, and always has leads me to believe that all is still good and no cheating has taken place. But I do agree, it doesnt "look" good. I guess it would look worse if the NBA still owned the Hornets.

And remember, it was only a jump from 4 up to 1, it was not that big a jump at all.

Computers are pretty handy these days at number crunching too. They could generate new percentages of getting the no.1 pick after the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ball get picked on live tv. Instead, the NBA do it behind closed doors with only a selected few to watch...makes no sense.

There are 1000 possible ways that the balls could bounce. Do you think about how long that would take to actually draw? Sounds like rivetting must see TV. That is why they use an independant accounting/auditing firm to carry out the "boring" stuff so that the TV show only has to go for 30 minutes. There is no conspiracy, the Hornets had the 4th best chance of getting Number 1, so their jump up the board is hardly massive.

I dont remember this many conspiracy theorists jumping up and down when the Bulls got Number 1 a few years back and drafted Rose. They only had a 1% chance of winning, where Hornets chances were over 13%. What people are forgetting, especially those who wanted/expected Bobcats to win, is that the worst team has a 25% chance of winning, or to look at it another way, a 75% chance of NOT winning the lottery, and history has shown that Number 1 pick has gone to worst team only 4 times in last 2 decades...makes you wonder why anyone would "tank" at all.

OK now that I have knocked the conspiracy theory on the head lets look at todays lottery winners and losers. Obviously Hornets had great win, jumping from 4th to 1st, leapfrogging Cleveland, Wizards and Bobcats (in that order) but every other team is gonna be drafting from the position where they started, so who else can be happy (and sad) with their day?
First big winner is Golden State - With no one below them jumping into top 3 it meant that they got to keep their pick at 7, which will give them a bloody good player this year, so they should be very pleased IMO. Adding Harrison Barnes (or similar) will boost their roster considerably.
Next winner is Portland - Whilst their own pick did not move from where expected, they did manage to get hold of Brooklyn Nets (yes its now official) 1st round pick, so will have 2 lottery picks in draft.
Obvious Loser - Bobcats. Sorry Michael but tanking doesnt do anything but give you another loss.
Another Loser - Brooklyn Nets. Trying to build team with no first round pick in what is a great draft, not good.

So what does everyone else think? How did your team go?

They draw 4 balls. They draw the 4 balls and work out the result in the time it takes ESPN to interview 2 people and then go to am add break. Putting the draw on live TV would be fine. I've never watched lotto or Ozlotto etc where the balls are behind a door and then someone pops out and tells you what they were, but we can't show you....because, umm, just because!

The lottery system is stupid. They should just do the draft like the NFL, team with the worst record gets pick 1, second worst record gets pick 2 and so on.

Firstly, they dont just draw 4 balls. They draw more than 4 balls as this would only decide 1 teams position, so it will take a few more than 4 to get a full result. And lets be honest, if you dont believe in the system now, then I can imagine you also complaining when they go to the interviews and ad break and come back with the result...did they tinker with the result while the advert's were on? Obviously they did under your thinking.

Secondly, the NBA is about entertainment and $$. I am pretty sure they have arrived at the correct presumption in that the extra 30 minutes of TV time that they would have to pay for would not add any entertainment value to their draft coverage, nor would it add any further legitimacy to the draft. If you dont believe then you dont believe, its as simple as that. It has been this way for longer than I can remember, and at the end of the day, no system is faultless, there will always be knockers no matter how the draft order is set up. Possibly being able to view the actual lottery drawing online may be a cheaper option, but I can guarantee you that the NBA is sure enough of its system to not feel the need to pay for TV time, just to quiet the doubters.

Not a massive NFL fan (not compared to NBA anyway), but I dont think rewarding tanking is a good thing. Games at the end of the season can get really ugly if this is how the system is set up, where teams are playing to lose. As a Colts fan, you would think that I would support this system, given our pick up of Andrew Luck this draft, but I still didnt enjoy watching my team lose every week.
