Hi guys, I have this 1946 British Rugby League Touring Team print. It has "Melba Studios Sydney NSW" in the bottom corner. Quite a large frame. It is 69 years old and for that age - in great condition. Not sure if i want to sell yet - but looking to seek advice for value - or feel free to make an offer on it. I have done research on the team and i am aware that the team was dubbed "The Indomitables" and was a team that was undefeated during the series. Honestly at this stage if anyone would know the value - or could recommend somewhere i could get more information from that would be great.
Cheers
Brplat
I used to be very interested in these type of prints, predominantly from the UK, until i realised that they were not originals being sold, just reprints.
A few more here that they just keep reprinting at their own leisure. They look great but not original.
To my knowledge this frame has been around since 1946 - i know this as years ago my father (he was only in his 20s back then and he is 64 now) set up an australia/english test display in the shop window (menswear store) - asking people to bring items in (to display for a short time) then the original owners came in to collect the items again. This item was brought in by an older person (unsure who as they did not keep a record of it). When the menswear store closed down years later this item was still left in storage and would have been thrown in the bin as trash. So my dad took it home. The frame itself and the back of it look to be very old - but this is my only knowledge of the originality of this item. I know the item has been stored at my family home for at least 44 years of its life - but have no idea where it was before then. Hope this helps
P.s. My one is not matted - the item goes from corner to corner - white border to photo. It also 'looks' its age - not brand new like that one on ebay
I certainly dont doubt you, considering that you have had it that long, which is 'Covenance" that i would believe. Unfortunately, they do keep reprinting these older items, so only a professional could really value your piece in person.
I have been stung twice so far, 1 from the UK( 1963 Kangaroos photo), 1 from Australia( 1908 Kangaroos Dinner Menu), 1 more i am yet to believe is original, but the money was small, so i do know what people are really doing these days and only by having a piece in hand is really the only way to value an item like these.
