1900 Cricket Ball - My Great Grandfathers

I thought I would share something I got from my family years ago, something I look at all the time but really havent studied closely.

I dont know too much about it, so started looking into it.

It was given to Percy Painter ( my great grandfather on my mums side) in July 1900, as stated on the plate on the ball, looks like it was riveted on there from Hornsey Grammar School. On the other side it has the words Frank Sugg and Liverpool enbedded into it.

I looked up Frank Sugg and he played 2 games of cricket for England in 1888, as long as many years of county cricket. I wondered if he made the balls thats why his name & details are on it, but could not find any information confirming it. Frank also played soccer for Derby, Burnley, Everton & Bolton

I havent got many details from my family on this so I intend looking into it.

The makers name is usually embedded into the ball.
For a ball of this age wow it looks good you should get a case and put it in as the plaque is on the ball the way it is dont remove it otherwise the ball might fall apart.

Cheers Corey, thanks for the info, I will dig deeper about the maker too.

I rarely even touch it, would like to pass this on for generations. Amazing to think its @112 years old. Its kept protected always, and I would never remove the plaque, it does have a small hole by one of the rivets.

Well it is 112 years old that's not to bad try the English cricket club as you said played for England that would be where to try I reacken.
