I think most of us grew up with the NBA in the early to mid 90s and that's the same time as when a lot of us discovered the joy of NBA basketball cards too....

These may be mostly newer release products but the players are all from the 90s, so let;s take a trip back down memory lane. Starting out slow and saving the top 3 for last.....

Centres

Bill Wennington - part of the infamous '3 Headed Monster' which carried MJ to two championships in 96 and 98

Brad Daugherty - Regular 20-10 guy and one of the best passing big men to have played the out of the post. Career filled with injuries. Could never get past MJ's Bulls squads in the eastern playoffs...

Shawn Bradley - 7'6' of 'not in my house' - that would be a reference to his shot blocking ability and not his year mormon missionary work down under. I wonder how I'd react if someone 7'6' knocked on my door?!

Gheorghe Muresan - Only ever had one truly good year in the NBA, injuries take their toll on these giants - only played the equivalent of about just under 4 NBA seasons before retiring. For some reason he always reminded me of Frankenstein.........

Vlade Divac - he was rocking the beard before it was even cool. The only guy who can claim to have been traded for Kobe Bryant. Came right in at the end of the Showtime era and one of the long time Lakers to have never won a ring

The Forwards

Tariq Abdul Wahad - Quite a decent player actually....

Thurl Bailey - super sub for the Jazz who took to his role off he bench to accomodate an outlandish rookie known in Utah as the 'Mailman'

Charles Oakley - part of those NY Knicks thug squads back in the mid 90s who also couldn't get past those pesky Bulls

Bernard King /15 - High scoring HOF SF who deserves a bit more recognition after having spent most of his career on some rather mediocre teams. Close to 23ppg at 52% from the floor over 14 years with five different teams... Was runner up to Larry Bird for the 1984 MVP. Mucho respecto!

Antoine Walker (on card) - From NBA All-Star to battling with scrubs in the D-League. Sad story actually...

Larry 'Grandmama' Johnson - Everyone's favourite player (and advert) back in the day on those Hornets squads with Zo and Muggsy. Check out the guns, back when he was a brute of a player...

The Guards

Terry Porter /100 - Combo guard with a cone shaped melon - lol At his peak with the high flying athletic Blazers of the early 90s which made it all the way to the NBA Finals. Worst card ever designed, by anyone, in the history of card making.

Eddie Jones - Not much hobby love for this guy but he was a great player who hustled at both ends of the court, Eddie, Kobe and Shaq dynasty shoudl have lasted a lot longer than it did...

Steve Smith - Big guard who was meant to be the next Magic Johnson. The guy could shoot but was a bit one dimensional and only ever cracked it once as an all-star.

Nick Anderson - Part of those well known mid 90s Magic squads featuring Shaq, Penny and 3D. Stole the ball off of Michael Jordan in that iconic playoff series in which MJ was knocked out in the second round. They went all the way to the NBA Finals before Hakeem shook the Magic loose in 4 straight. Btw, this guy has a real nice auto...

Rolando Blackman /199 (on card) - Mavs sharpshooter who seemed an odd fit on the bully ball Knicks. Nice looking design and on card too.

Muggsy Bogues - The original "little engine that could", "pocket rocket" or whatever you want to call him. You just know this guy has determination and heart in bucketloads.

Mark Price - Dead eye from all over the court and up until recently the all time FT% leader. Still had excellent form at the charity stripe which I saw first hand when I arrived early at a 36ers v South Dragons game a few years ago. Fundamentals first!

Jeff Hornacek (on card) - Love this design and one of my favourite players on those fundamentally sound Jerry Sloan Utah Jazz squads.

The Big 3

I'm not much of an insert fan but I love acetate and this series was always one of my favourites...so had to grab it

Scottie Pippen Titanium - I think you all know enough about this guy in the 90s!

UP next another Chicago Bull who earned some rings too - the Croatian Sensation, Pink Panther, The Waiter - Toni Kukoc
Toni Kukoc /99 (on card)

......and finally my first auto of this 1990s sharpshooting superstar

On-card and /200.......

The one and only!

Reggie Miller!

His autos are pretty hard to track down so glad to finally have one in my collection.

As always, thanks for looking and reading along. Comments and likes are always appreciated too. May the mojo be with you!

Wow, there's a haul! So many names there, favourites- Nick Anderson, Steve Smith, Toni kucoc, Eddie Jones, these guys were some of my favourite 90s players!!!!!

Wow so many beautiful cards there mate, like that Rolando Blackman auto being a big Mavs man! Love the little bit of commentary on each of the cards as well... nicely done mate!

An awesome and informative mailday. Love how you capped it off with a rare miller auto sighting.

Amazing how quickly some of those names fade from the memory banks but some of their highlights will live on for a while yet!

brings back great 90s memories. great haul.

So long as they're good memories! Loved the basketball back then probably more so than now...

Love the Kukoc and Miller autos!

2 guys who don't sign a heck of a lot but legendary 90s players.

all very nice mate, legends, my sorta mailday! the elusive set has some awesome and rare autos in it!

Sure does Norm, you might even say some of those autos are somewhat...elusive! Hope you're feeling better mate!

Rolando Blackman is signing EVERYTHING in sight! Just had to get one big nice on card auto.

Love it. Taking me right back mate

Up late with Billy Woods for the Top 10 plays of the week! Good times!

Always a big pleasure to read your mailday my Skip ! Plenty of nice additions my friend .
Very happy for you ;)

Cheers Tiph - probably some of the better pickups I've had recently, need to start slowing down!

I think the basketball was better back then - less teams, no Big 3s, franchise players for the long haul, guys who could actually shoot and make FTs...

gotta love them 90's players!

Spot on - the golden era of all things NBA!

Wow that last card really tickles my fancy.

A guy who arguably even talked more trash than your PC guy!

An awesome and informative mailday. Love how you capped it off with a rare miller auto sighting.

Never thought I'd land a Miller auto, not his biggest fan - but one of my favourite memories was the 8 points in nine seconds in MSG against the very anti-Miller Knicks crowd.....never, ever give up!

Awesome mailday as always skip! Love the range of players and the nice trip down memory lane! That Miller is a great card!

Great card from a great player - nice photo and on card - doesn't get too much better than that!

Excellent read as always, I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments re: absolute marks of fame cards lol!
Thanks for the post

Ah the memories. I vaguely remember Tariq playing for Kings and Orlando but not Nuggets or Mavs!
Real sad story of Walker. Has a doco out (coming out?) called Gone In An Instant. Would probably be good compulsory viewing for the NBA Rookie Transition program.....

I remember Tariq as Olivier St Jean! As for 'toine - let him serve as a public service announcement / warning. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT let your entourage go beyond your closest 500 friends! Partied it all away, very sad...

Thanks for the post

Let's just hope someone of signifcance out there reads this and knows to never put a jumbo sticker on a shiny background with imprinted serial numbering ever again!
